Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

I saw an old car in Minneapolis yesterday that caught my eye because it had several stickers on it. One said "latinos for Obama". Another said "Vote YES on Prop.8". The car had a California license plate.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

My friend that is over 80 years old, she told me that prop 8 has made her so mad that she is telling her friends that support it that they are wrong and that it is bigotry to support it. I asked her what their reaction is and she said that they look down and are embarassed.

This is the most heated proposition that I have ever seen. Prop 22 was ugly and it was so one sided. A lot more gay people and friends are more visible and speaking up this time. On the other side, they have a lot more people coming over here from other states to tell people pass it.

How's this for irony: I was running an ad for a No On 8 shirt. Today I decided to monetize my sites by throwing Adsense on them. Forgot one little detail...

As I'm checking my sites and what ads are on them,I keep seeing Yes On 8 ads appearing on my sites. Forgot that apparently there is no control over what advertisers you place on your site...

RG

Edit: OK. I can eliminate some advertisers by tracking them down.....Rassenfrassen...

OH MY GOSH! I grew up in a very conservative city, Glendora. On the corner of Grand and Route 66, 11:30 at night, there are a bunch of people telling people to vote no on Prop 8. This is a very conservative suburb. It is the last place that I thought that I would ever see something like that. But I have to say, it was an awesome thing to see!!!! YEAH!!! Here is to hoping that Prop 8 fails. There are sure a lot of people that are working so very hard.

The other side is putting signs every place they can possibly do so. Most of the places are illegal.

Only 20 hours until the election is over!

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

I'm nervous, too. I'm also on a 4:30-8:30 information handing out-thing shift for NO on 8. It interferes with my Rugby practice, though, I didn't know I had double-booked. >_<;

Fight against Prop. 8 reaches East L.A.

The fight against Proposition 8, a state initiative to ban gay marriage, arrived today in East Los Angeles, where a trio of local politicians launched their push to reach Latino residents -– frequently a more socially conservative slice of the electorate -- on the hot-button issue.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, Los Angeles Board of Education President Monica Garcia and state Assembly candidate John Perez opened the Cesar Chavez Avenue storefront office for the “No on 8” campaign, which will communicate with Latino voters across the state.

Prop. 8 draws demonstrators across valley

Last-minute protesters took to the streets throughout the region Sunday to voice their opinions on the controversial Proposition 8, which would ban gay marriage through an amendment to the state constitution.

About 300 protesters, all in favor of the proposition, gathered at the intersection of Diamond Bar Boulevard and Grand Avenue in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Mike Browne said.

In Pasadena, police Lt. Randell Taylor said about 200 protesters gathered at the corner of Orange Grove and Colorado boulevards in opposition to Prop. 8.

In Glendora, about 200 protestors on both sides of the issue showed up at the intersection of Alosta and Grand avenues, Glendora police officials said.

Several dozen demonstrators were spotted on Arrow Highway at Azusa and Citrus avenues in Covina, Covina police Sgt. Dave Povero said.

El Monte officials also reported small numbers of demonstrators in their city.

No incidents were reported at any of the demonstrations.

Mormons Divided On Same-Sex Marriage Issue

Last night, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi went on San Francisco's KRON 4 to express her opposition to Proposition 8, the initiative to eliminate marriage rights for committed gay and lesbian couples.
"I wanted to add my voice to Senator Feinstein, Senator Boxer, President Clinton, 300 pediatricians, scores of California constitutional and family law scholars, and business leaders in opposition to Proposition 8," she said. "This is a mean-spirited proposition that is discriminatory and unfair. You always go in the direction of more freedom, not less."
That last line is worthy of repitition: "You always go in the direction of more freedom, not less."

Gay marriage votes may show changing U.S.

Gay couples are not hiding any more and that has made all the difference, said health care administrator Linda Merkens before Tuesday's vote in California that will decide the legality of same-sex marriage there.

It's one of several important ballot measures voters will face in states across the country on Election Day.

"A lot more gays are more open about their relationships, and a lot more people are willing to accept it," Merkens said in downtown Los Angeles recently.

This year, all the coastal areas support gay marriage, and support in the inland valleys, which have values similar to the center of the United States, has grown but remains small.

Los Angeles County had the biggest swing, he said. "It's the moderates who have moved," he said.

John Matsusaka, president of the Initiative and Referendum Institute at the University of Southern California, said voters, especially younger ones, were used to homosexuality. "It doesn't have shock value any more," Matsusaka said.
