Do you use cable for your TV or Satelite?

and would you switch because you aren't happy with what you get currently.

Satellite. Have had Directv for about 12 years and have never not been happy with them.

Funnily enough I'm with Directv too and love them....

BTW I asked them for a $10 discount off my bill ($120 usually - I get pretty much everything but premium Sports channels) and they gave it to me without any question for a whole year.

It's always worth asking..... they can only say no (or YES!) :)

I LOVE MY DIRECT TV hook up. Their HD is incredible on my 1080p big ass tv. They update the software and are always adding new features. They loaded apps, you can see where the space station is, watch a web cam at old faithful, or the eifel tower. I don't even have to mention how great their customer service is because others have done that already.

Had cable and got the dish as it was cheaper and promised more. Cost went up and I'd lose picture during rain and or snow storms.

Went back to cable and I'm pretty happy.

I have had Directv since 1998. I love it. I have priced cable and they cant or wont compete. Have moved 5 times and they have never charged for installation or the new dish. They haven't had any increase in rates either. Customer service is awesome.:gogirl:

I have cable and I'm happy with the service but it is a bit expensive. I'd really like to try AT&T U-Verse but I can't get it. I have DSL for internet though.

Cable and i'm happy with it... Anyway where i live i can't put a dish outside the house ... ( patrimonial issue).. and our winter here are pretty windy and snowy.

As I have been having HUGE problems with our cable company, I have been thinking about getting sat TV a lot. Problem is, I am located in an area where I have a lot of trees surrounding the house, which is kind of in a hole as it is (small hills on three sides). So I am afraid that in the snow, with the snow on the trees it will seriously impact the signal. Is there any way to test that out BEFORE buying?

When I bought my new house, the cable company claimed they "didn't service my area." So I talked to the builder - and he showed me where the cable ends in my front yard - called the cable company back, same song and dance. Whatever. I'm not going to work to be their customer. Dish was here the next day and I couldn't be happier.

Both. Satellite for my mom and cable for the rest of the family.

And the satellite reception's faulty. It seems my mom was not destined to watch satellite.

And since I spend my time less than 3 hours a week in front of TV, I don't give shit.

Go with Verizon's FiOS or ATT's U-Verse, these fiber-optic based systems offer the largest bandwidth for easier future upgrades to the system, for coming higher resolutions (i.e., 1440p, 2160p, and 4320p), 3D and higher refresh rates (i.e., 120Hz, 240Hz, and 480Hz). Dish Network may have the most HD channels now but it's a proverbial arms race, one company is going to come out on top until they are bested by another competitor. But on a side note, Cable is still the shittiest way to go, and that's really the only easy option that's available to my area.

Dish here in .za. Our tv is horrific.

Your choices in .za are:
- 1 national "free" broadcaster, the government-run SABC (3 channels only; 2 of which showcase local content), paid for with taxes and a nominal annual fee called the tv licence.
- 1 free broadcaster with one channel, eTV (but you have to pay the tv licence fee anyway, so it's not really free. You cannot buy a tv legally without showing or buying a tv licence)
- 1 public access service in Cape Town only, CTV (which broadcasts on a really weak signal to what seems like only about 4 houses)
- 1 pay service, MultiChoice who has a single over-the-air encoded channel (MNet) or a dish-based 60-odd channels satellite service, DSTV, for big bucks every month if you can afford it. They have 2 HD channels on it which are new. They also own one of the 3 cellular phone networks and are the one of the 3 major ISPs as well. If you're looking for decent-enough tv, this is your go-to place - NatGeo, Hallmark, TCM, ESPN/Classic, Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network and Boomerang, loads of top live sports, couple of movie channels, BBC Prime/Entertainment/Knowledge/CBeebies, Discovery, History, Animax, SET, MTv Europe, VH1 and a few others all here for a price.

And that's it. We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves with these 200-channel services you guys have. And HD is not going to be common here for some time. Welcome to the 3rd World ..|.

What exactly is cable, anyway? Literally a wire coming into the house? Or is it picked up via the airwaves with a set-top box, like a satellite receiver without the dish attached?

What a wonderful bunch of choices. :(

Cable TV as it stands these days is a cable coming into the house. Most folks these days do have a box of some sort.

Satellite TV is a pizza-sized dish going to a set top box.

I voted 'Cable-Happy' although I think my Cable is too expensive.

I've got a bundled service that includes Phone and Internet, plus TV that gives me roughly 100 channels plus about 50 music channels.

Just under $150 a month. I like the internet...very zippy and reliable, and the phone is good for me right now as it offers unlimited calling throughout North America...good for long talks with Mom who is 1500 miles away. The TV sucks, don't get the best channel lineup...sometimes there are 100 channels and there STILL isn't anything on.

Several neighbors have Satellite TV, and they constantly complain if a bird flies around the neighborhood, they lose reception.

Antenna (Free) TV used to give me 8 local channels; since the DTV transition there are only 3 that seem to be available right now--two of them in Spanish. When the DTV switch came, I decided that basically the era of 'Free TV' was over.

Ummm... I have 3 TVs. I don't know if they have cable or dish ? For one of them it is a box that plays like 600 channels or something and the other 2 don't have anything but they still play the same 600 channels and always have since I got them  They all have DVD players in them too :) one of them is really cool because you don't even realise it has a player in it, you just slot it into the side and it goes behind the tv screen.

I don't really watch TV though, I watch shows online. Only time I really watch the television is when I am talking to people online and they are watching the show with me. Normally when it is a really good show or special event. Sometimes watch the crappy talk shows when I am sick.

CABLE .... SATELLITE ..... 600 CHANNELS?

No, I'm afraid this is as hi-tech as I go :(

Still who needs more than 4 channels?
