For awhile now, I had been really contemplating how to tell her that I am bisexual (slightly leaning more toward men), but could never seem to find the right moment. Obviously, not easy for a black man from a religious family. This past Friday, I just let it out, I couldn't take not being truthful anymore. My mother has been a lot like a sibling and a best friend to me, someone I share everything with, so I needed to tell her. She scared me a bit first, because it really seemed like she would not be able to accept me, but once she had some time to think and get some air, she started to come around and we are working through it. I'm enlisting in the Navy later this year and will be away from home for the first time ever, I couldn't leave without my mother knowing the full picture of me. Plus, I didn't want to end up falling for a guy at some point and being secretive about him. I really felt a weight lifted from my shoulders, I freed myself and can really focus on my future a lot better.
