Cameras INSIDE Homes?

So I was just watching some fail videos and noticed how many were from cameras inside people's homes, living rooms, kitchens, etc. Is that a common thing these days? Seems weird to me.

I think its weird too. Why are they recording themselves. In case, in the rare occasion, they get robbed?

Yeah I doubt many robberies get caught on home camera. Beside cameras outside seem smarter for that kid of thing anyway.


My brother had many cameras in his home for awhile, but it was because he wanted to keep an eye on his kids while he was in the garage. After they got a bit older he took them down.


Just seems like a huge privacy issue unless everyone that lives there is okay with it, including any kids.

I guess it depends on how you define "common."

It is statistically few, but I don't think I'd see it as rare. It is a further extension of home security and baby monitoring. And, some have it to keep an eye on pets while away.

My guess is that most people do it as a form of home security, and that it is in addition to external security cameras. The rest are watching toddlers and pets.

It doesn't seem odd to me.

I have one in my living room/kitchen area so I can check in on my wife as she is prone to falling.

A friend of mine has one in her home "to check on the dog" but she also made it clear to her son that the camera range also includes the computer... I suspect she wanted him to know that she might be watching so be careful what he does there!

I also question using cameras to monitor family members.

But I know there are people who have concealed cameras as part of their security system and people who have cameras for observing their toddlers and pets...and sometimes for elderly or sick people, they can be a way of monitoring falls etc.

As others have mentioned, I think a reason could be keeping an eye on pets and small children. I do have my own "indoor" camera in my garage. It is a auto-tracking camera. I put it in there mostly in case I forget to close the garage door and a thief decides to take advantage of that. But I could understand if someone wanted to use camera indoor in the event someone broke into the house. Those images would be pretty valueable and probably better than an outdoor camera because I would assume the person detected in the home would be closer to a camera than an camera mounted up high on the outside of the house. My cameras can be automated depending on the time of day and also can Arm (activate) my cameras if my smartphone leaves the neighborhood.

I have both inside downstairs and outside cameras. I think they're convenient. I can check on the house when I'm gone. If anything happens, there is a recording. I can see downstairs, when I'm upstairs. I have a nice recording of my now gone mom on Christmas Eve from a long time ago. My outside cameras have caught several car break-ins and thefts, one resulting in the arrest of the thief. I like my cameras! I don't see why they're weird.

I have cameras both outside and in by the garage entrance, the deck, and both porches, plus one in the kitchen. The first sets are for security, the second one in case of accidents.
There's also one in the living room that can be activated from a couple of places in the house, in case one of us needs to call for help.
