My iTunes and Quicktime have not been working for the past month n a half. I spent an hour last friday trying to follow thru one of the step by steps on the apple website only to find that it didnt work. Can someone please help me out. I get the same message every time I try to open iTunes:

iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close

When I try to open Quicktime I get the same message but a different message from iTunes:

Buffer overrun detected!

Program: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QuickTimePlayer.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.

Have you tried removing both of them from your computer and then reinstalling them?

I'm presuming by all the \'s that you are running windows. Have you done anything system wise, like downgraded to Vista? Have you installed an old copy of either application or started from a back up disk? The current app for iTunes has a different file format than the one it replaced and the files are not backward compatible. Check the Apple site apple.com and see if you have the latest release. There have been updates in QT for the Mac anyway.
You haven't moved the music folder by any chance?
Have you tried booting in safe mode?

Caveat. I know nothing about windows.

Apple has yet to produce a version of iTunes or Quicktime that works properly on any flavour of Windows - its obvious they do it on purpose to try to make the Mac look good (sure it needs all the help it can get).

:p
....as does microsoft by delaying an Intel version of Office, crippling microsoft messenger so you can't cam with it, not having a version of Outlook and supplying instead entourage which should have been called discourage and not updating internet exploder since 2003:confused:

i would suggest the same thing, although i don't have iTunes. i would be careful with that iTunes thing, i've heard various horror stories about people uninstalling and reinstalling and then something getting messed up when they sync with their ipod. so that their ipod is wipped out. i don't know the details of that, i might have it wrong, but it's worth a try to at least uninstall and then reinstall quicktime. my quicktime "breaks" all the time and the only thing i can ever get to work is uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

Thank you soo much for the replys guys. Im so sorry that I havent replied, I've been away for the holidays. Im installing the quicktime alt as we speak but Im just wondering whether or not it will work for my ipod.

Ya I think Im going to keep the Quicktime alternative but not the monkeymedia. Here is the problem whenever I try to uninstall Quicktime or iTunes. I dont know why but theres always something from preventing me from deleting it. Whenever I try to delete from the control panel-Add Remove programs it will say "there was an error with the uninstallation".

Also I have attempted to delete it and once it went through but you know how itunes and quicktime leave behind other files? I think that maybe be a problem. I tried deleting all those files but I may have missed some.
