thanks(!) (!) (Always wanted to use that banana)

How about "The Amazing Mr. Ripley". Stars Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gweneth Paltrow. More about a sociopath than about gay issues, but a fascinating script and superb actors.

Relax...It's Just Sex, Finding North, Angels In America, Presque Rien (or Come Undone in the US), The Fluffer, Latter Days. The list is endless.

It's called "The Talented Mr. Ripley", and I agree wholeheartedly. It is one of my favourite films of all time.

Also, I recommend the following that can be easily found:
- The History Boys (currently in theatres in the US)
- Far From Heaven
- Billy Elliot

You can always look under Netflix's Gay and Lesbian category for more. I might be the only one on the boards that has a dislike for 'Latter Days', but if the masses says so, check that out too.

There's also the classic gay coming of age movie "Beautiful Thing"...

.

I agree with lukylok, Torch Song Trilogy is excellent and has everything you are looking for, including a very young Harvey Fierstein and Matthew Broderick.

I liked "Mambo Italiano" it's good, funny in parts...But there's some Canadian references that might not go over as a joke if you aren't aware of them.

Beautiful Thing is the most heart-warming film I've seen.
Yossi and Jagger
Burnt Money-----I find that it's seldomly mentioned here but this real-story-based piece from Argentina is so intense and unique. you've got to watch it.

Guys...try this one...it was I think made by the director of Broke back Mtn. But it was so SO much better. Escape into the night. Awesome and so so sad too. Also liked Walk on Water which was a bunch of stuff coming together ...Latter Days is good to find out why you hate the Mormons. Oliver Twist..gay version. lots of stuff...just ask. Bad Education was bad. and so was the Philippino one ...just terrible. But the Russian one: You I love ..was so so cool and refreshing.

The director of Brokeback Mountain - Ang Lee, has another gay themed film, which was nominated for Best Foreign Picture in Academy Awards (but didn't win as well) - and the film is called 'The Wedding Banquet'. I am not sure of thie 'Escape Into The Night' - but I think you are referring to Fleeing By Night, which was directed by Hsu Li Kong & Chi Yin.

Oliver Twist is known as Twist. I thought it was a good film, but I preferred the one where it was gay Neverland, titled Neverland.

Philipino one? There are a few - and recently I watched Manay Po! and loved it - something more of Another Gay Movie category - cute guys and funny sketches.

Bad Education is not bad. You just have to understand Pedro's style of story.

I think The Wedding Banquet is more appropriate to be seen as a film depicting relationship between a son and his father. The sexual orientation of the son is a vehicle that helps to present conflicts and tension. Anyway, it bears the hallmark of Ang Lee( Li An in Chinese)---the subtle emotions, the close observation of humanity(always with insightful finds)...
And unlike Crouching tiger Hidden dragon, it was well received and highly-praised by Chinese audience and critics.
I think it won a golden bear at Berlin film festival that year...perhaps a silver one I can't remember exactly.
