No.

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

Well, I know I'm one of those you would like to stop from posting, but my aim (at least) is only to educate. Unfortunately, it is impossible to educate those who do not wish to learn.

Meanwhile, your aim should be to educate us. Instead, you offer nonsense which has nothing whatsoever to do with your argument and expect us to take it verbatim.

Try being smart instead of merely trying to act smart.

Wheeeeeee!!! This is gonna be a fun weekend at Cafe JUB, I can tell.

:corn:

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

the whole point of posting on here is for people to read and comment on it. Some people do and some just read them.

If you dont want people to remark on your post, then either change the type of post, make more interesting, or dont post.

It's called Freedom of Speach, you have we all have it.

But posting on here is controled on here by the MOD's.

so it's up to you....

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

Its hard to pinpoint my annoyance. but I think their should be a function where you can banned from a thread if you aren't participating in its general aim.

You don't seem to understand, Andrew, and we have been trying to explain it to you. You are the biggest offender in not participating in the general aim of your own topics. You take them on completely irrelevant tangents and become annoyed when we try to bring you back on course.

Like I said before, try being smart instead of trying to act smart. By trying to 'act' smart, you only come across as looking stupid.

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

I must admit, Andrew, that you often come up with many very interesting and thought-provoking arguments and thoughts and ideas. Unfortunately, you fail in trying to argue them and soon find yourself on the defencive and your arguments and logic begin to become nonsensical and, often, self-contradictory. That's why people become so frustrated.

Can I stop certain people posting in my thread ,
meaningless !

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

But once you create a thread, it no longer is "your" thread.

But since the thread didn't exist before it was created, then how can it be no "longer" your thread? That is, since the thread doesen't belong to the man who created it since the moment it was created, then it was never his in the first place and thus the use of the word "longer" is illogical.

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

Yah know what, AndrewD, at the end of the day, once you're off JUB, the real world beckons. Cyber interactions are ephemeral, and if you let it get to you, you're just investing too much emotion in the experience.

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

Ok.

Which of these do you consider more abusive:

1 You are a paedo!!

or

2 You are the most ill informed person I have ever come across.

"You are a paedo!", hands down.

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

You HAVE done that, Andrew! I will try and outline some pertinent observations. I know I'm kind of clumsy with words, though, and I won't be surprised if you don't find them too helpful. OK:

Everyone annoys someone so what you are proposing then is a continual cycle of tit for tat abuse?

This is in response to a Piggy quote where he says something like, "If you annoy, prepare to be annoyed." to me, is a great example of a jump in "logic" that is so great it reminds me of talking to my mother on a really bad day. It seems to me that there is such a large disconnect between Piggy's statement and your respondent "end point" that's it's hard to imagine what *you* have filling up the space between.

I do not mean to abuse in this, but to "feed back": It feels to me that, when you respond to someone else's comments, there is a consistent and large lack of any movement on your part to "move toward" a socially reasonable assumption about what the other person meant or tried to mean. It seems to me that you are constantly asking people to explain what they mean from the ground up, and regardless of how much anyone tries to do just that, it never makes a difference. You still don't "get" what they say.

Even witnessing these kinds of "conversations" is frustrating to me, much less spending much effort participating (but today I am feeling hornery ;) )

I notice that Stevenavy has come into this thread on abuse patrol. I think that's good. That gang-up/dogpile was beginning. Those can get ugly. I haven't done a comparison between randomly selected threads that you start and randomly selected threads that others start, but it seems to me that this happens in "your" threads much more often than it does in others'.

Now, to go back to Piggy's statement and your reply: It seems to me that another logically possible conclusion from Piggy's statement -- no, wait: another intuitive or heuristic conclusion, based on a participatory social experience and observation thereof -- could be "Well, after one or two rounds, the parties involved figure out what it is that is annoying to each other, and they both sort of tone it down." Another reasonable end conclusion might be, "Well, one or other person might simply walk away."

For the most part, that's exactly what I have done in response to your threads. I just usually don't show up. Every once in a while, though, I get a wild hair.

(Wild hare?)

If I may, a final observation... it may seem a bit off-topic, but I think it's pertinent: Admittedly, I haven't seen anything remotely close to "all" of your threads, or even most of them, but I have noticed that the threads I've seen are very consistent. A lot of people really go the whole nine yards to be reasonable and even nice with you, supportive, etc. If you have ever said "Thank you," or "I appreciate your trying to help," or, "Thanks for the warm words," I've not seen it.

In short, with very rare exceptions, you HAVE stopped me from posting in your threads! Good work!

Best wishes, AD.

Ditto.

It's like bad sushi. Sometimes even the smell is enough to have me running for the exit.

The thread belongs to everyone who posted in that thread.

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

I come from a board where there is drama, drama, drama.

Here's an example.

One poster had 12 aliases. In a thread he wrote, he said he was an aspiring bodybuilder, which endeared him to many. Using another alias, he wrote posts against the beloved young bodybuilder just to get the others riled up

I have had 3 people suggest I kill myself. I havent read every post here but this seems like "kitty cat city" (whatever that means but it sounds like it is a good place).

I applaud the mods for not allowing aduse to be tolerated

And if you stop people posting, this might as well be Nazi Germany
i'm shocked, what a waste of time for that poster. poor him i think.

Re: Can I stop certain people posting in my thread

Have you tried posting your threads in CE&P with an "On-Topic" tag?
