In my teens, 20s and until my mid-30s I considered myself a dedicated top. By mid-30s I began to experiment with versatility and enjoyed it very much. I had expanded my horizons. Around 50 I decided that bottoming was more pleasurable. The is no pressure on the bottom to perform, just lay there and enjoy yourself. I do still top some times and I still enjoy it. I think I finally accepted that I didn't have to play the male role in order to be masculine.
 
I kind of envy the versatile guys. So many more possibilities especially if you're partnered and trying to stay monogamous. I've tried topping but it's bottoms up for me 99% of the time.

I've been topping for like the past year or so. I can't remember the last time I've bottomed. Its just my luck that the guys I generally am attracted to are typically bottoms. I've been a very bad bottom for years. It's probably too late to change. But every so often I will still experiment.
I'm a pretty good top, so I usually just let that happen.
 
Personally, I don't think you should ever go into a sexual situation with an agenda. Instead, just let the interpersonal dynamics direct the flow. You'll be surprised, and have a much better time.
