  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Can we do some reverse bodyshaming?

I think we can do without the disdain for ANY body type. The fact that there is intense body dysmorphia is laid out perfectly in the 'The Adonis Complex' - released in 2000. Being an older gay man (70) who started working out in 1965 (but not seriously; just the usual high school thing of "I can bench press more than you") but then a hobby ten years later (although mine was, "I want to be strong like Hercules." I knew nothing about being a mesomorph body type (naturally muscular, as was my dad, whose physique I admired from the age of 12), I saw this trend of "the beautiful body" develop in the gay community starting around 1982, and in the straight community in 1990 (when the first "Men's Fitness and Health" magazine arrived). It was obvious that straight men had developed an envy of all the well-built gay men and thought it as something they needed to 'acquire' to bolster their 'masculinity.' (After all, who wants to see that gay men, who are looked down upon, have better bodies than straight men?!?)
And so the 'race' began. And then it morphed into "manscaping' and having ZERO body hair (the better to show off all the striations/"cuts" between muscle groups). And by 2000, it was an obsession with me. Hence the 'Adonis Complex.'

This whole body shaming of ANY KIND is another sign of the deterioration mental health, including that sub-genre of it that is based on cultural standards of beauty (started in America), and the mental health of the US is nothing to laud, especially in the last 60 years.
Regardless, what is the point of a diatribe against body types? Does this make ANYONE feel better about themselves? (And if the answer is yes, please consider getting counseling for poor self esteem.)
It's fair to point it out as a fact that is clearly visible around the entire planet now.

But as a diatribe, it's just another sign of vitriol against another group. We have enough of that already. If people have (enough) self esteem, they like themselves. And others. And then, to paraphrase Rodney King, we can ALL just "get along." Seems we have quite a ways to go.

Praise Jesus we have a thoughtful post in Hot Topics! And it didnt even come from Frank.

This seals the deal for the unattractiveness of that whole image, bald body + unhealthy fixation on perfection, equally as often a coping mechanism for serious underlying mental issues they refuse to address per macho man law.

If a guy's body is naturally stocky (like my dad hence my slim-thick build) thats great, but if his Superman body is the result of repressed emotional or mental issues and insecurity, I cant imagine any rational or sympathetic person being into that. Seems kinda selfish.

"I know youre suffering on the inside but pop your pecs for me again, so hot!"

Why, on this forum, is any person or behavior that can be seen as annoying or foolish immediately chalked up to mental illness?

No, it's often about insecurity and the call of herd mentality. It can also be an addiction.

I wasn't really asking a question. I was pointing my finger. Sniff it.

You wont believe me, but I swear to God if someone pointed a gun to your head and said they'd pull the trigger unless you can answer 5 world history questions correctly and you get one call for backup, you're better off calling her than 90% of US politicians. Not sure where that puts us on the evolutionary spectrum.

You made a remark about if I watched the NFL, I told you no and why I don't. Your discomfort wih my response is your issue, not mine.

I made a remark that you are talking out of your ass on a subject that you now admit that you know nothing about -

It actually and factually doesn't suck to be me, my life is very fucking awesome. Great friends and family, fortunate enough to stop working during covid and still thrive and do the things I wanna do.

As for the conspiracy part.... what?! :rotflmao: what conspiracy dude did you already pop that xanie?

These mostly-black men do more to uphold white supremacy than they do for poor/black communities with their performance charity and summer camps.

^ ummm that one

Sorry. The NFL is weird, their bodies are weird and that shit isnt attractive. And if I want to I'll talk about my color all day long. Who gone stop me? #loudlyandproudlyblack

this isn't about you "talking about your color" this is about you playing the race card in every fucking conversation on this forum - it's loud but it's not proud - it just weakens your message - just like Colin - there is a time and a place - and the National Anthem is not that place and that is why he got the cold shoulder - not because of the message but where he chose battlegrounds - and it is the same for you - you lose any validity when your turn nonrelated threads into your racist throw down tirades - and no matter what you squawk about that is the truth that remains - you have ZERO cred when EVERY LAST THING IS TURNED TO THE RACE CARD

don't bother to reply TO ME - that is the end of this conversation - I wont revisit this thread - - pick and choose your battlegrounds carefully otherwise you have NO AUDIENCE

Can someone be too non-judgmental? I'm attracted to a wide variety of male body types.

I'm planning to go to a "body-positivity" event in Pittsburgh this week. I expect to be crushing on several guys, and have no idea what they'll look like.
