Can you be gay and religious?

No. a person cannot be a Christian and be sexually active whether straight or gay.
So, what you are saying is NO sex at all? We all go to hell if we have perverted thoughts and are jacking off. IF! we are on here, which we are, right? for any sexual thoughts and comments, we are done.

My Pops once told me that ifin you don't sin on Saturday night, you have nothin' to repent on Sunday morn....

You can be anything and be Cristian. It's the history of Christian schism that they choose the rules they want to follow and then run about pretending that they are the only ones who know what the rules are.

That started right at the beginning when Christians threw out all those pesky rules the Jews had to follow.

In regard to sin, the point of religion is to convince the slutty who fuck around to repent. Christianity is explicitly for the sinners.

Nobody needs sex. even the most sex-positive people accept that. I don't give a fuck what the Bible or any holy book says. Tbh, i don't even understand your point.

Most religions, whether Abrahamic or not, say excess sex or lust is bad. Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, etc. all do.

tbf, i don't give a fuck. and let's be honest, we know from basic modern medicine that sexuality has its dangers.

i don't even understand your point.

The point was that the other member didn't understand your statement that "a person cannot be a Christian and be sexually active." Your statement doesn't seem to make sense. He merely invited you to better explain your statement.

Jesus Himself said lustfulness is bad. That's clear enough.

WOW! now I'm really confused. I'll just say, if you are on here for the gay sex, the sexual fantasy, being a horny pervert then you can't be religious. So, is it OK to have sex, just no dirty thoughts, like gay fantasies.

Jesus did not say being sexually active was bad.
Yes, He did. that's liuke been the standard interpretation since forever. I dunno what edgelord pastor you went to, but then it's useless to deny basic points merely since they don't concur with your lifestyle.

What's to be confused about? it's just rudimentary Biblical analysis and Christian points. It's been the norm to have sex only within marriage. Casual sex is a no-no. For anybody who is Christian, these shouldn't be hard points to grasp. And yes, your points were badly-stated and bad to comprehend.

English is English, sir.

Religion also has elements of interpretation. Different people at different times can interpret the same religious concepts with a different emphasis. At one time Galileo's concepts were viewed as anti-Christian and the Inquisition was viewed as pro-Christian. I don't think that most Christians would interpret those this way now.
Some tenets are more hardline than others. Not all things are equally susceptible to interpretation. Jesus said "love your neighbour". Tha'ts not subject to interpretation.

It is interesting you posted this Taralen. Can you be gay and be religious in any of the Abrahamic faiths, well no not if you are self hating. There are pro gay Abrahamic congregations but the Abrahamic texts are viciously anti gay. Hell Christianity and Islam were instrumental in spreading homophobia, transphobia and sodomy laws world wide. It is interesting that you are a gay African American male. You may or may not be aware of this but Black Americans aka the descendants of the slaves who were taken from West Africa had Christianity forced upon them. Neither Christianity nor Islam are African religions. My friend Kola Boof a Sudanese Womanist activist stated that Christianity and Islam were the worst things to happen to Africa. I would take it further and say that all of the Abrahamic and Zoroastrian religions were the worst things to happen to the world in general. Black West African traditional religions like Vodoun, Candomble, Quimbanda etc were actually very accepting of LGBT people. In fact prior to Christianity and Islam entering Africa most African peoples accepted LGBT people in various forms. I have always encouraged African Christians and Muslims to go back to their roots which is African Traditional Religion especially if you are LGBT as these religions are far more accepting of you then any of the Abrahamic religions.
this seems ahistorical. what evidence is there that ancient Yoruba religions were pro-LGBT? Pre-colonial Africa has no written records.
Humans also have choice. We are not slaves, as it were, to our past and ancestry.

There's an easy solution if you want to be a horny pervert with sexual fantasies and dirty thoughts, and also religious. Just become a priest.

You, YOU! are the one who made this confusing statement. Read it. A PERSON CANNOT BE A CHRISTIAN AND BE SEXUALLY ACTIVE. So that tells me NO SEX if you are a Christian, RIGHT? That's what you posted.

All I was saying IS can you basically be a pervert, thinking of straight sex, cuckold sex, or gay sex. And still be OK with God? I ask because there are millions of us that still are Christian's but still have these perverted sexual fantasies. I'm not talking about people who cheat. Who have sex outside of their marriage.

Being a filthy pig has absolutely no bearing on whether you believe in some religion. If someone wants to be a Christian there's plenty to choose from. The question isn't can one be OK with God, it's more like which God will be OK with you?

If you can't find one, invent one and start a church, it's not like that's never happened before.

My personal thoughts are that if some version of a Christian god exists, he/she/it really doesn't give one fuck (see what I did there?) who you fuck, or how, or how frequently, or in what combinations or positions, so long as everyone involved agrees.

Then prove how literally centuries of interpretation is wrong. it's clear that He said sex should only be in marriage.

I answered the question. as a former Christian myself, I gave a Christian-rooted answer. the real answer is that all religions have various strands. I'd argue how you as a human can know what a God believes, which is pretty arrogant. You're mixing personal wants with what any God would value. it is very possible that the Bible is true. who can say it's not? the fact is you were using some double-talk and know fully well that the Bible condemns homosexuality. tht's standard Christian practice. [Text: Removed] i don't see who can disagree with that. [Text: Removed]

Maybe you and others can prove me wrong - Jesus Himself said fornication is wrong. This is widely said to be sex outside of marriage and casual sex inclusive. and? again, prove me wrong. [Text: Removed]
oh and if i am "rude", many others here have been rude also. i merely offered a point, and you and others shouted me down when my point was valid.

I'm sorry your statements have encountered doubt and disagreement, but that doesn't mean you are wrong or that your statements don't count. You are allowed to hold whatever opinions you wish and you are certainly free to express relevant opinions here in the Religion, Spirituality & Philosophy sub-forum.

I encourage you to read the sticky thread at the top of the forum titled, "Reminder From Ronboy...."

After that, maybe read the opening post to this thread to get a better idea of the topic it is intended to address -- which isn't so much sexual acts, but homosexuality more generally.

You can use the search function (at the top right side of each forum page) to discover other threads that may come closer to a discussion of sexual activity and how that relates to Christianity or other religions or beliefs. If none of those threads address the specific points you are interested in discussing, then you can create a new thread to provide a clean, fresh introduction of the topic of your interest.

I think one of the problems in your recent posts in this thread is the intermingling of a variety of different terms that do not all have the same meaning, including sexually active, lustfulness, sex only within marriage, casual sex, homosexuality, and fornication. It may be helpful for you to explain what you mean by some of those terms, rather than assume that they are interchangeable or that other people understand your intention.

And a reminder to everyone: This is a No Flame Zone.

I'd argue that arrogance is trying to get me to care about Christianity's arbitrary rules in the face of the monumental lack of any kind of corroborating fact. Christianity has been reinventing itself consistently from the beginning, so much for divine inspiration. Why stop now?

I can say what god wants, just like they can, with exactly the same authority. God only has motives if it exists; show me God and I'll ask.

I can say the Bible is not fact. It's very improbable the Bible is fact. Extremely to the point of incredulity kind of improbable, and lunacy that anyone should just accept all that magical phantasmagoria with no proof whatsoever.

Everything religious is human invention, all of it, all of the books, rules, promises, threats, dogma and liturgy. All of it. When a god, any god shows up to defend itself then we can talk.

One last point, you are the only one claiming:

...the fact is you were using some double-talk and know fully well that the Bible condemns homosexuality...

-You

Let me be painfully clear I DON'T THINK the Bible is gay friendly. It's monstrously homophobic. I DID NOT SAY WHAT YOU'RE CLAIMING.

You invented that.

Don't put words in my mouth to suit your own agenda.

YOUR POINT WAS "CHRISTIAN'S YOU SAID CANNOT HAVE SEX.

born and raised Catholic, then I began to ask questions as an adult. The concept of God (and Jesus) is man made for people that can't bear the concept of nothingness after death. Ditch all religion, live your life as you want, free of religious guilt.
