Did you do Home Economics at Secondary/High School ?

Did they teach you the basics like easy meals, cakes flans etc, things like sewing and darning, wiring a plug ?

We made vests in home ec. (The kind that goes with a suit, not a wife beater) also cooked but it was just the basics. We didn't have enough time in the class in the day to do anything like bake a cake.

We rebuilt lawnmower engines in shop.

In woodshop I made a clock. I gave it away cuz the sound of a ticking clock drives me mad.

We just made trinket boxes in woodwork, i once made a Christmas cake over about a three month period, very professional it looked.

Never took Home Ec., but I did take shop in maybe the 8th grade. Made a rolling pin. Ironic, as Mother didn't even make cakes, much less pies. But you're a kid. What do you know?

Is there a video I'm not seeing?

I expected to see something from Annie Get Your Gun. It was a musical (I believe) referenced in the movie Love, Valor and Compassion.

And, no, no home economics for me.

My home was my home ec class and my mother was my teacher. I was self-sufficient when I moved out and it was all because of my mother. The only thing I didn't learn was how to darn socks.

I had some kind of shop class in junior high school, both wood working and metal. I don't remember what we made but it would have been really basic. I didn't have a home economics class but the girls did.

I did both shop and home ec. I enjoyed them both very much and I still use all the skills I learned back then today.

Boy Scouts taught us some fundamentals...but nothing learned in school.

I think that home economics should be a core subject for all kids for at least two terms in order to teach them basic skills and knowledge about managing their own house and home.

We were supposed to become electricians... we barely wired a switch to a neon light and a video door-phone

Never did Home Economics in school....I loved wood shop and carpentry.

No, we never did any of that at school. We were made to do metalwork and engineering instead. I was as incompetent as I was disinterested.

Who are you trying to fool, Vannie. We all know it was carpenters' wood you loved!

There was this one kid Larry who showed me his boner.I almost fainted

The woodshop teacher was a quite a character.55-ish...Italian balding roly poly.He had missing fingers and was blind in one eye.(tarallucci would have been in love ) He was always reminding us of safety.Great teach he was.

I'll just leave this gem here and flee the thread in delight.

Only the girls and one guy who was picked on took home ec. I took a class in mechanical drawing in the 8th grade and wood shop the following year. The mechanical drawing class was useful as I was able to draw a print and then I could read one as well. Many guys have no clue about hidden lines, phantom line, 3rd angel projection and first angel projection. Having a handle on this was very useful in the line of work that I went into.

Forgot to mention that I can make a thread using a lathe:)

There is no thing like home economy here. I learned everything form my mom, grandmas or by myself.

Middle school everyone had to take all the classes; sewing, cooking, wood shop, metal shop, and drafting. Girls and guys both took all the classes. Starting Freshmen year we took them as electives. I took wood shop and small motor repair. Sophomore year I took a construction class. Freshmen-senior I took drafting and architecture classes.

I broke Vannie and gsdx with that video

and probably everyone else who had the guts to watch it all.
