This deserves to be in HT.

It was a while working through the legislation, but it is done and done.

A surprise motion on Wednesday by the opposition Conservatives to fast-track the legislation prompted applause in the House of Commons. A handful of Liberal cabinet ministers hugged their Conservative colleagues after the vote.

And the beauty is that it was he Conservatives who pushed it forward.

So proud to be a Canuck today.

It's great news, but I think the Conservatives are just trying to mop up after all their screw-ups. including Kenney and Ford. Either that or they're looking for their popularity.

Great! Here in the US we do not expect a similar national action. That today's Congress would go that far is inconceivable -- and today's Supreme Court would shoot down such a law anyway. So far, 14 states, plus the District of Columbia, have passed laws protecting LGBTQ youth from conversion therapy "by licensed practitioners." Those last three words, of course, exempt religious zealots and other wackadoodles from practicing their witchcraft. Progress comes slowly.

That's good news. It was the Conservatives who pushed through same sex marriage here (at least in England and Wales; the Scots and Irish were dragging their heels as usual). Hopefully they'll legislate to prohibit conversation therapy soon too.
