Canada -- Bloc's caucus opts to unanimously oppose turning back the clock on equality

Re: Canada -- Bloc's caucus opts to unanimously oppose turning back the clock on equa

Ah! Got it! Thanks for the clarification. Social 'conservatism' would help avoid confusion in future -- just a suggestion. ;)

I will take it under advisement :p

I think you are right, if Quebec were to break away from canada, it would have done so at the end of the 20th century... it didnt happen and I think the desire to separate is waning.

When people vote for the bloc, they dont necessarily vote to separate. Quebec is probably the most progressive province, they didnt vote for the Right because they are leaning towards the Right, they mainly voted for the conservatives to punish the liberals. Hopefully when the liberals pick a better leader (I am also leaning towards Ignatieff despite a few things...) they will gain alot more support in the province.

Sorry, but I think Ignatieff is our Hillary Clinton. He's been anointed and I just don't see it. He's not electable. He seems to be slumming when he pretends to be a politician.

Yeah why is that? Why do the liberals have so much trouble with the western provinces? Also Quebec takes too much flak for standing up for themselves. Glad to see that they have decided not to cave in to Harper's demands. We'll see if Harper even has the guts to bring the same-sex marriage back to the table. I think he just used it as one stepping stone to get voted in.

Maybe the Liberals get so much flak in the West because they're not necessary. I live in Manitoba, which always flips between NDP and PC, at least provincially, so who needs the Libs. Mind you, my MP is Liberal, and there are other Liberal MP's here, so I don't think it's entirely fair to say that the West has problems with the Liberal party.

Pretends to be a politician? Not electable? Why? Experienced politicians have never been found to be corrupt, clueless, unable to dig themselves out of a wet paper bag? They've always done what's best for the country?

At least Ignatieff stands by his past decisions, even if those views aren't shared by much of the Canadian population. That's a refreshing change from previous years the Liberals have been in power.

I would assume the above is equal marriage exluded? I see them doing a pretty good job of standing by those decisions.

I'm specifically talking about leaders of the party. Take Paul Martin for example. Gay marriage was brought forward under his government, but he did almost nothing to facilitate it's legalization. The guy basically washed his hands of the matter early on and said "don't look at me, I'm letting the courts decide." He didn't want to piss off voters so he let the courts make the decision for him. It's this type of behavior I do not want to see in the next Liberal Leader, ie hiding behind the supreme court instead of making the tough calls.

It's the same with the way Canada handled it's foreign policy under the previous governments. The Liberals didn't take much blame for anything relating to the military because they deflect responsibility to the UN. Ignatieff wants Canada to have a more independent voice on the international stage instead of blindly following an often dysfunctional United Nations.

Ignatieff seems to be intelligent and decisive. He is a liberal who will actually take charge and lead the country... a refreshing change from 'Mr. Dithers'... I like his ideas and I am sold on his leadership abilities.
