Is it too hard for the Xpresspost delivery guy to open the front door of the building, walk 4 metres down the hall, and knock on my apartment door?

Must be. He stopped at the front door and knocked there. (I can't hear knocking there unless the person pounds on the door with their fist.) He could look through the window in the door and see the stairway up to to upper apartment and my door directly in front of him.

But it was too much trouble for him to turn the knob and come to my door.

Instead, he left a 'pick up' notice in my mailbox outside. He even wrote my name, address, and 'lower apt' on the damned thing.

Now, I have to walk 3 1/2 blocks tomorrow to pick up my delivery from the Shoppers Drug Mart sub-post office downtown.

At least I don't have to take the bus to get it.

Sure would have been nice if he/she would have come in.

But I'd be willing to bet there is actually a policy prohibiting entering a building unless the mailboxes are actually INSIDE (like in a Lobby). If someone has come in before, it was probably the person actually being nice instead of just doing their job.

It is probably 'assumed' by Canada Post that everyone has a working exterior bell. Of course, not accurate at all, but do the Postal People ever worry about niggling things like details?

I have an unrelated question! What is a block? People on the television always say a block but I really don't know how far that is. I don't think anybody in the UK measures things in blocks. Is it just a group of houses or something? How many houses?

Some have come inside and set the delivery at my door. Some have left the delivery outside beneath the mailbox.

It all depends upon the delivery person, I suppose.

Over here, a 'block' is any distance from one intersection to the next or a 'block' of buildings surrounded by streets. There is no set size or distance as you can see from this satellite pic of downtown Peterborough:

What would you say in the UK? 3 streets away?

My shaw cable bill gets sent from Calgary usually 8 days before it is due and arrives in Victoria 2 days past due. 10 days to get an envelope from Calgary to Victoria.

Then there is UPS. Ordered a phone from FIDO, they use UPS. They left a note on the front door of my building, when I was home. Written on the parcel was call, no buzzer. UPS will not call! I had to drive across town to pick up the phone. I called FIDO about the situation, the attitude was...tough.

Neil, it's not just Canada Post.

The United States Postal Service has some of the laziest people delivering mail here too.

I had a delivery notice in my curbside mailbox that there was a package waiting for me to pick up and sign for, at the post office, after 4:00 PM. I had been home that day, (it was during Christmas break), and he didn't even attempt to venture out of his mail truck to ring my doorbell. ( and it wasn't even that cold of a day...) This was when I had picked up my mail at 1:00 PM.

They would rather inconvenience you than inconvenience themselves....:(

Didn't you have a thread recently saying the same thing about CTV? haha

I'm sorry that happened to you...

When I was in Canada, my mail was never delivered to my house anyways. I always had to walk down the street to a giant mailbox with my key.

Just like in any other organization, there are bad apples in Canada Post. In one CP outlet in Toronto, this middle-aged woman behind the counter was very rude to the customers. Because employee unions protect even the most lazy and inefficient workers, this woman's head has gotten so big to believing that she can't be fired even if her customer service sucks. She's probably too lazy or has an attitude to work manually in the sorting room, hence, her being assigned behind the counter. Too bad CP management couldn't do much with employees like her; too bad it's the public who had to endure this shit from this loser.

Fuck Canada Post, I have never had a decent experience with them.

I had to mail a portfolio to a university in Montreal from just north of Toronto, right (this was on Friday)? So I go to Shopper's Drug Mart to mail it because the bimbo at the actual post office is half-blind and a little slow. No less, I buy ten stamps for 5.71 and I ask her how long it would take for my mail to typically arrive in Montreal from Toronto, as I need it there by March 1st. Instead of telling me she directs me to this long ass chart. Five business days, whatever. I wanted to make sure it was there by the 1st so I bought the Xpresspost envelope (16 dollars, holy shit) to get it there two days faster.

22$ to mail seventeen pages somewhere that's not even a six hour drive away is absurd, let alone the fact that it takes nearly five days to reach said destination. The ironic thing is I received a package from Vancouver in two days, and a package from Halifax in three days...and for those that do not know, those two cities are on opposite sides of the continent with the latter being closer to Cancun, Mexico than Vancouver.

I've always found that sending anything to Toronto or Ottawa gets delivered much faster than anything coming from either of those cities.

blacksyringe, I think you would have found it cheaper and more reliable to have sent your documents with one of the courier companies. And Canada Post wonders why the citizens of this country are so cynical about the service we receive.

Problem is the Canadian Post mail sled snails freeze to the roads in winter

Here's a good one. I sold some stuff on ebay to a buyer in Ontario. I sent them from Victoria BC and followed the progress with the tracking number on Canada post's website. All went well and the package made it to the destination city within a few days. I checked the tracking number a few days later to make sure it was delivered and to my surprise the package was back in Richmond BC, WTF. Some idiot read the postal code wrong even though the address was clearly marked ONTARIO. Apparently reading English isn't a prerequisite for employment at Canada Post!

True enough.. every company, including my own, have employees who give shit and stand out and some that wouldn't be missed..

Canada post is a joke.

True story: I ordered 2 items on the same day, one from mainland China and one from across Canada. They weighed roughly the same, and were packaged in boxes with similar dimensions. The package from China arrived within 5 days, while the one from in-Canada took over 2 weeks. Oh, and the one from China was a lot cheaper to ship!

The last 3 packages I have mailed via Canada Post have been delayed in transit for absurd amounts of time. I'm talking well over 30 days, even when I sent them Canada to America Grunted Delivery, AND paid extra for faster service. One of them was lost for so long Canada Post declared it MIA and sent me a cheque for my insurance $. Thank god I got insurance on it.

Seriously, screw Canada Post. I won't send anything through them but a letter, and only if I don't like the person very much. ;P

From now on I use FedEx. Their online shipping makes it so easy and they are cheaper for the most part.
