Canadian Election 2015 - test which party supports your views.

That was fun.

91% Liberal
87% New Democrat
86% Green
82% Communist
74% Bloc Québécois
41% Conservative
30% Libertarian
13% Christian Heritage

I wish some answers allowed for even more leeway than the alternatives listed.

Otherwise, I scored(most prominent parties displayed here)

88 Liberal
81 NDP
76 Green
70 Communist
37 Conservative

Most of my answers were as nuanced as possible but still fell a little more leftward overall than I imagined, though I never thought I'd fall under a more conservative perspective. The Communist thing is silly... Social Democrats and liberals would support the basic things I did support, and I definitely am not a hard "no free enterprise whatsoever" lefty. Nor do I support confiscatory tax rates... though I do support clearly more progressive ones. I do have to say though I've gained a more pointedly liberal streak over the years, so the actual test wasn't that far off from my current perspective the more I consider it.

I'm not Canadian but I wanted to take this test anyway. I support the Labour Party in my country btw.

I got:
New Democratic 98 %
Liberal 97 %
Green 93 %
Communist 92 %
Conservative 7 %

I'd say this is pretty accurate. I'm a leftie alright and I can't stand the tories. Harper disgusts me, so yeah.. this is actually dead on.

My perceptions indicate that the desperation of the Harperites has been replaced with bitterness, bitter about too much immigration, about people claiming the environment needs "protection," and that they, the Harperites understand that the Liberals are on course for victory...

I wish Justin Trudeau, and his Liberal Party, good luck.....at the 2015 general election.

and, Bonne Chance, Canada.

An educational, and amusing article that enlightens the foreigner on some of the more disagreeable features of Canada's current prime minister, leading me to understand that Canadian politics has changed dramatically under the tenure of Stephen Harper...for the worst.

I quote:

An unkind cartoon this summer showed the Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper, kneeling before the statue of another politician, asking: “What now, O Great One?” That in itself would not be unkind. The punchline is that the statue is clearly labelled as that of Richard Nixon, famed above all for his attempts to corrupt democracy.

It enlightens the Canadian as well; thank you.

After years of reading those kinds of reports one scandal at a time, it is stunning to see them all laid out in one in-depth report. He's worse than I remembered.

I don't see how I got 69% Communist. They're obviously not very communist and on each question that I agreed I chose a more limited response except on infrastructure-related questions.

Bloc Québoécois was the REAL surprise. I guess they're just generally liberal? Because I distinctly answered a big fat "No" on should Québec leave Canada..

Quebec separatists got their start with the hippies pushing back against the church and "the establishment" and the "english capitalist pigs" and so on.

When their terrorists blackmailed their way out of the country, they wanted to go to Cuba.

Their current recycled leader (who ironically can only stall their slide toward oblivion by stoking the same anti-immigrant xenophobia that their avowed enemy Harper plays at) was in his younger days part of the "workers communist party of canada."

I'm almost sorry we don't have a gulag to send them to after the next party purge. But their policies have become more moderate over the years. Terrible counter-revolutionary backsliding. But such is life.

Perhaps but Bloc Québoécois just sounds cool. Like they stand on corners in retro sunglasses smoking french cigarettes....

Today's the day my fellow Canadians. Remember, the very first thing Stephen Harper did was hold a vote to reopen equal marriage after it had already been the law of the land for a few years. Oh, and then he did sweet fuck all for the economy, balanced the budget as an election stunt even though we were in the second recession under his watch and it would have been smart to invest in crumbling infrastructure when the government can get a good price on construction work.

He twisted our support for Israel into support for Likud alone, destroying any credibility we previously had in foreign policy to be a bridge builder and peace keeper.

He made fun of his opponent's hair instead of debating their economic plans, and then sanctimoniously whined that the opposition should be talking about the economy (they were) instead of him (they were talking about his performance on the economy.)

He treats victims made to be child soldiers like they are adult terrorists and doesn't even grant the basic rights that an actual rapist or murderer would get in jail. And he gets upset at how adults choose to dress themselves if it doesn't meet his standards.

He prevents government-paid researchers/science employees from doing science (peer review is supposed to be done by other scientists, not by the Communications Department of the Prime Minister's Office)

He wants to snoop through all our emails and phone calls with no warrant and no parliamentary oversight.

There is so much to dislike about the man, but of course it is all about the policy, and his are really shitty. I can't wait to be rid of him. Please do your bit and vote today

In spirit I'm voting with you. Even if I don't get to be Bloc Québoécois - I have a little Cajun ancestry, would that count?

Been there. Did that. Just waiting to celebrate HarperCo's loss later this evening.

Wish us luck in the west. I'm afraid Alberta will not do anything quite so dramatic as the last provincial election, but with any luck we'll stop embarrassing ourselves, by sending at least a couple of Liberals and at least one ND. It was great to watch the polls showing Ontario break for Trudeau and even some con trolls and Sun lackeys are worrying about a Trudeau upset majority.

^ Hey. Baby steps. We don't expect miracles.

It wouldn't be unusual for voters to go in the opposite direction federally as they did provincially. It is what makes it kind of interesting. My cousin in visiting from Calgary and our good friend in Red Deer are as pessimistic as you about seeing any dramatic change...but even one or two non-conservative seats would be a huge change for Alberta.

yay.....Trudeau overcame Emperor Palpatine.

Goodbye Stephen Harper, go back to the rock you crawled out from.

Nice one. Has to be said that Harper seemed to be very un-Canadian.
