Will Dick Cheney be Arrested For War Crimes in Canada?
Canadians are pushing to have Bush's VP arrested at upcoming visit.

The international group, Lawyers Against War, has urged Canadian authorities to arrest former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney for war crimes when he arrives at the Toronto Global Forum this week, Huffington Post reported.

The anti-war group wrote a letter to the Attorney General John Gerretsen and Police Chief Bill Blair saying it was their duty to arrest Cheney, “as a person suspected on reasonable grounds of authorizing, counseling, aiding, abetting and failing to prevent torture.”

In 2011, GWB had to cancel a planned speech in Switzerland, because protesters there were calling for his arrest as a war criminal.

Five years after they left office, Bush/Cheney remain despicable in the eyes of the world. I cannot think of an American administration in the entire history of the United States that has been so hated by the people of the world, and for so long.
 
it's a nice thought, but it'll never happen. GWB and Cheney have traveled internationally (including Canada) several times since leaving office. they'll never be brought up charges... it's a mix of head of state immunity combined with not wanting to stir up an international crisis with the United State after Obama himself declined to instigate any kind of investigation against his predecessor.

it might have been security concerns, but the Swiss government is on-record saying that GWB "enjoys immunity from prosecution for any actions taken while in office" (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/george-bush-cancels-swiss-trip-rights-activists-vow/story?id=12857195)

which heads of state have been tried for war crimes in international courts?

You do realize that's complete bullshit. Of course, many Euro countries actually respect the UN whereas the USA [ironically the creator of it] doesn't give two shits for it. That is why they won't be tried.

morally, I agree with you. I wouldn't shed any tears to see the people who implemented and authorized the waterboarding programs sitting in a court room.

but legally, it's just not going to happen.
 
I don't understand the obsession with Dick Cheney most loons on this board are having. He's not gonna be arrested or prosecuted as a um... war criminal (ROFLMAO). So GET USED TO IT! Now if the obsession is because of the word DICK in his name, then carry on! I love to bitch and moan about a dick as much as the next guy.

No, I think it's more to do with him being a soulless war-monger, but I could be wrong.

I think it's because, as a serious article in the Oregonian and other newspapers put it, he's one of the most evil men to have ever occupied such a high position.
 
How does that work since the US never ratified the ICC (International Criminal Court)? Would they be tried under older treaties? I guess they would have to set up an ad-hoc court. Not really sure. I only know enough to not understand it.

Dick Cheney is a .....um..... war criminal. Remember he authorized tortured? He and GWB lied about WMD in Iraq so they could invade Iraq. Cheney war profiteered. 4,400 Americans died because of him and his puppet.

the event was held on October 30-31st... near as I can tell, no reports of Cheney getting arrested or even any major protests.
