Singapore executes its prisoners (by hanging), but does not release details except for foreigners put to death. Amnesty International state that more than 400 were hanged there between 1991 and 2004, giving Singapore the highest execution rate in the world. The number of executions has not waned since 2004, and have possibly risen. The retired hangman, Darshan Singh executed more than 850 in his 48 year career, including 18 (3 at a time) on one day.

A fourth nation was apparently added to the list just minutes after the first three were revealed_________?
Take your pick:

I'm against capital punishment as many people have been proven innocent years later, and also because of the fact that putting someone to death is more expensive for tax payers compared to life sentences.

I would agree with you that in western nations it might be more expensive, I'm not too sure about in developing and lesser developed countries.

One thing that i found surprising in the map that you posted was Europe, every country has outlawed capital punishment except Poland. I would have thought there was some sort of requirement about that to become an EU member.....guess not.

In Europe, everyone is blue, except for:
- Byelorus, Kazakhstan (red)
- Latvia, Albania, Armenia (lemon green)
- Russia (orange)
Poland is blue.

Isn't it surprising that Mexico is more advanced on this issue as well as the gay marriage issue than the US. The US is such a bizarre country...so forward thinking technology wise and so backwards intellectually.

I don't know if anyone knows about that... in last year, Byelorus launched a campaign against polish minority. They didn't like the result of election in its organisation, so they didn't recognise it, and polish activists were being persecuted, arrested etc. When elected president of cogress of Poles in Byelorus crossed boarder, drugs were "found" in her car etc.
Now, however, it's Lukashenko who has problems, because russian Gazprom wants to raise the prices of oil for Byelorus four times, which would be devastating for byelorussian economy. Last time when Byelorus was cut off from russian oil, however, it took the oil going to Poland, so it's also problem os Poland, Germany and Lithuania.

It embarrasses me that my country has the death penalty.

I am proud that my state, Michigan, has never had a death penalty.
