I wouldn't stay in one if I had stuffed cabbage for lunch

I wouldn't mind if it was quiet.

My problem with that concept is that ANYONE can SEE IN! !oops! [-X

Not that I'd mind "strolling down the line". :slap:

They have smaller capsule spaces. There is certainly no room for 2 people, and there's not even enough room to sit up. You basically crawl into it and lie down.

Could you imagine using "Grindr" or some hook-up app in Japan, the guy asks you to meet him at his hotel room, and this is it? I hope there is a door that shuts, and least some soundproofing. Maybe I ought to look on xtube for "capsule hotel sex".

I wouldn't like for other people to see me. Also, I would like a private bathroom. However, when I was younger and in the military I shared an open bay barracks with about 40 other guys and a big open bathroom as well. You do what you have to do.

Must be like crawling into your own coffin.

That's what I thought they were called. They are about the size of a coffin that is as high as it is wide. There was an episode on Seinfeld in which Kramer heard about them and rented out his dresser drawers to Japanese visitors to New York. I can't find it on YouTube, but you can see it here:

EDIT: Oh, never mind. JUB linked it directly.

None in NY that I know of, they are popular in Japan as there hotel rates are the highest on earth . I spent two weeks there when I first started working as an officer of a major bank in the states. The room was $450 a night that was in 1992.

you can check in any time you like

but you can never leave.

I would really like to try out sleeping in a capsule hotel. Yes, the bathroom and facilities are shared.

I have stayed in a capsule hotel in Taipei, but that one had more space that the ones shown in the pictures above.

I understand from a Japanese friend that these capsule hotels are cheap compared to normal hotels in Japan. Many Japanese live in the outskirts of town, and if they fail to catch the train home, the taxi fare can be exorbitant - and it takes a while to get back home anyway. It makes more sense for them to just crash in one of these capsule hotel and perhaps can even have a bit of a lie-in before going to work the next day.

I suppose they would not have a change of clothes if and when they do that - or they have a change of clothes kept in the office.
