Not a few stories coming out of Cyprus, suffering its own very serious economic crisis are amusing...but this article is sufficiently entertaining to justify offering something different for this forum.....the article is not recommended reading for the delicate personality:

http://cyprus-mail.com/2014/03/27/frankenstein-claims-at-morgue-are-ridiculous-says-hospital-chief/
Asked why a car mechanic was hired as a morgue assistant, NGH chief Matsas explained that no prior medical knowledge is needed for the job as all morgue assistants are trained either by senior assistants or the medical examiners.

I couldn't let this go unanswered. I wonder if Igor has any legal right to overtime pay? I think my mechanic can pursue a new line of work.
Thanks.

^More to the point the car mechanic was employed to dissect human corpses at a public mortuary.....whilst, also recognising that this multi talented car mechanic should have been paid....if only to avoid publicising the unseemly disclosures......that autopsies in Cyprus are a matter for car mechanics.

One wonders if there are ever spare parts.

There are always spare parts after you finish an auto job. Usually there are screws and nuts laying around you forgot where they went. The industry term is "extra parts"

"Oops I forgot a screw"

"Nevermind. It's just extra."

Just don't forget a bolt on a cylinder head, valve cover, or one of the manifolds [-X Any of the sundry cheap GM plastic junk, yeah you can leave out a screw ..|

A head's a head, whether fixing the hearse's or switching the corpse's so the guy's buried in a suit.

From what I've seen, being a morgue attendant isn't rocket science.

Might as well add a vocabulary lesson to the discussion.

Having worked in a morgue, I’d say the more an “assistant” knows, the better. On the other hand, a number of procedures involved at autopsy are more mechanistic than scientific. The assistant typically performs the less significant functions.

Anatomy is pretty much mechanics anyway. If you can dismantle an engine, why not a person? Same principle, different pipes and fluids.

Good luck to him. A job's a job.

It's those glass-packed exhaust pipes that take the starch out of your cuffs.
