Alabama has been in a tizzy, first from a nationally televised disappearance of a young woman who was presumed taken by foul play after finding a child on the side of the road, then screaming on her phone and going missing.

Now, it appears she made up the whole drama to enable her to get away for a couple of days, likely for some hookup or such.

We already did this decades ago. Tawana Brawley pulled a similar stunt in NYC and got caught in similar fashion.

I leap to defend my city. Tawana Brawley's stunt was in Wappinger's Falls, 80 miles upstate. Granted, Brooklyn's own Al Sharpton horned right in to get himself a bunch of publicity, though he has done considerable work to redeem himself in the decades since. (Took him a while, though.)

Also, Tawana Brawley was a 15-year-old with a violent stepfather. Carlee Russell is 25.

Thanks for the clarification.

I strongly doubt the public makes any meaningful accountability distinction between the two women's ages. Those who pull these stunts don't strike me as likely maturing much between 15 and 30.

Perpetrating a fraud to cover a few days of wilding is simply trashy behavior. They both deserve the scorn of society, aside from the wasted emergency services mobilizations both triggered.
