Millions of people have talked about the "most newsworthy" issue this week, which is the pregnancy of Jamie Lynn Spears. Eyes are rolling, either out of disgust or out of nausea... yet another member of the Spears family hogging the tabloid headlines.

What I am quite surprised about is that from all the surprise and confusion, I haven't heard (or read) a lot of discussion about dad-to-be Casey Aldridge.

I have two questions:

1. Who is he? Is he in showbusiness himself, or just by affiliation through Jamie Lynn?

2. Is he possibly guilty of a crime, statutory rape in particular?

I heard it mentioned before that statutory rape is a crime against the state (rather than a crime against the person). If this information is accurate, he may be in trouble even if nobody in the Spears nor the Aldridge makes a case of it.

Also, I looked at brief information about Statutory Laws in California and in Louisiana (I'm assuming laws from these two states would be applicable to the issue).

CALIFORNIA: Anyone who engages in an act of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under age 18 and the actor is not more than three years older or three years younger, is guilty of a misdemeanor

Anyone who engages in an act of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under age 18 who is more than three years younger than the actor is guilty of either a misdemeanor or a felony

LOUISIANA: Felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile is sexual intercourse with consent between someone age 19 or older and someone between age 12 and 17 OR someone age 17 or older and someone between age 12 and 15.

Misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile is sexual intercourse with consent between someone age 17 to 19 and someone age 15 to 17 when the difference in their ages is greater than two years.

She's sixteen, he's nineteen. Hmmmmm. What do you guys think?
 
oh for god's sake this whole thing is silly. 18 was arbitrarily picked as this magic special age... they're boyfriend and girlfriend, he's only a few years older than she is, there's no reason to assume the sex wasn't consensual... there's should be nothing illegal about this.

Whether it should be illegal and whether it is are two very different things. No idea what the laws are in Louisiana, but I think her parents would have to file charges anyway right?
 
Casey is a hottie. They're bf and gf...whatever who cares...they knew each other from school...it's not like he's some random guy who's just trying to knock up a 16 year old.

tell that to the kid who was orignally sentenced to 10 years behind bars for getting head from a 15 y/o girl when he was 17...
 
No offense to the Spears clan or to any Britney or Jamie lynn fans but I am getting alittle tired of all the press/news attention they are getting. Enough already!! There are more important things happening in the world at large, like the Iraq war for instance. Or the upcomiong presidential elections. I don't usually bitch like this but it seems like every time I open a newspaper or turn on the news there is some headline regarding either the Spears sisters or the Lohans. I apologize to the original poster of this article, but i just needed to vent alittle. There, my bitchfest is done.](*,)
 
it depends more on what the age of consent is in La. i know in nc its 16. if the person is under the age of 16 and the other is over 18, then its statutory.

the whole statutory rape thing, if it is true, doesn't matter if it was consensual or not. according to the law if she is under the age of consent or falls within the statutory rape guidelines she is not able to understand the consequences of her actions and therefore cant consent. personally i think the whole family is too dumb to understand the consequences to their decisions. but in the end its up to the district attorneys to go after it, they probably wont.

I think the law says as long as both can walk upright you're good to go. [-X sorry, butt I know some folks from LA and ... well this statement says it all

The TV report said he is 18, & she is stupid (I just added the last bit) The Disney execs must be having major heartburn with on of their virgin actresses being dicovered "with child". I wonder if he'll be the new KFed & live off her money ?? At least she's not blind, 'cause he is attractive (in an 18 yr old manner).
 
Maybe the condom broke... but really she should have probably been on the pill anyway. Truth is neither I nor anyone else knows what went down in their bedroom and I'm not gonna try to figure it out. Moral of the story is teenagers shouldn't be screwing.
 
She is 16 he is 19 the law states more than 3 years and its rape so there is nothing illegal here.
