"Cash for Clunkers', the recent socialist program that gave tax payer's money in exchange for qualifed trade-in's, has left already struggling car dealers cash strapped and has bound them in insane red tape causing dealers to have to stop the program early just to get the paperwork in on time. Dealers were suppose to get their reimbursement checks within 10 days but, as usual, the gov't hasn't performed. Ah gov't (not) at work...

In reference to the red tape, a dealer in Chicago comments:
"It takes almost an hour to put in each deal, almost an hour," said Linda Arce, an Autoplex employee.

"They have to finish by that time (Monday) or the Website shuts down, says Grossinger City Autoplex General Manager Brian Weinberg."

"We have not gotten paid for one transaction at this dealership yet," Weinberg said. "And as a company-wide group, the Grossinger Auto Group right now, we're owed about $1.7 million owed to us by Uncle Sam. That's a lot of money. Pretty much, every office is submitting documents and waiting on the government to pay us."

From the article: They say they can't talk to anyone. All the communication for this is done through the government's car.gov Website.

Thank-god the public health care option is failing as we speak. Last thing we need is another horrid gov't program that screws people over and binds them in red tape. Imagine how long it would take the gov't to pay on claims. Thank-god the Republicans and those brave Democrats, standing up against the public option, will make sure we never have to find out.

E-mail your reprsentative. Demand that they do not support a public option or anymore socialist programs like 'cash for clunkers'. Demand they return unspent stimulus money to the people as most Americans want!

Politicians return something and not spend it surely you jest. The good news about this bull shit health care plan is they don't have the balls to have in go into effect until after the next election. That gives us time to throw them out at the next election and repeal it before it ever kicks in. They don't plan for it to take effect until Obama is into his second term a foregone conclusion for them but I hope not. Coincidence, I don't think so. How about we do a trial run on it. How about we start with the president and all the members of the house and senate. If it works great for them maybe then we can expand it. Wait a minute they don't want it even if they make us all take it. Hmmm!!!

You said it!! And lets fight to keep the wanna be socialist Democrats from pushing 'cash for old appliances' program. More socialism disguised as environmental protection.

I would think all those old appliances would fill up landfills and that would be bad for the environment much the same as cash for clunkers. Since when is waste environmentally responsible public policy.

THe dealership for which I work is due hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I could have told them from the get-go that Uncle Sugar wouldn't be paying on-time.

*shrugs* oh, well.

We have, though, been selling a lot of cars.

The additional paperwork has been farmed-out to the hens in accounting.

It's also a pain for the customers. If they don't have everything perfect, they're screwed.

There's also the tow operators that get $150 or so for removing the vehicles. Everyone's taking it in the arse.

I think its safe to assume that its taking longer to get the money back because of the great success of the program 250,000 cars sold in its first week alone, I think thats more than impressive in an economy like ours.

Not really. Its taking so long because it was a clusterfuck of bureaucracy and poorly written rules. And you can't relate this to the economy; these people had the money, regardless of cash for clunkers, they just chose to spend it now instead of later.

Well I'm glad it is helping you sell cars but I feel discrimanted against since I don't have a clunker. I would rather the gov't give a 4500 tax credit to people who buy a new efficent car. This would avoid people trashing perfectly good cars as well.

It just another Obama programs that helps people who make poor decisions.

Bought a low mileage car, Obama will give you $4500.

Did the reponsible thing and bought a high mileage car, Obama gives you nothing.

Make a poor decision, Obama gives you money.

why? you seemingly have an effective, that isn't a big polluter. your need for the money is zero I would imagine.

I think it's more:

Have a old, busted, near death car polluting the planet like no other? Get government money.

Have a newer, not so polluting, not so dead car? Well be happy.

Willy should return to junior high school. Do you really understand the definition of the term "socialist"? You and other Republicans throw that word around.

Billy Wharton, editor of The Socialist magazine said in a recent Washington Post column:

"If you want to learn what it's like to be a duck, ask a duck"

Such careless rhetoric from protesters merely reinforces George Orwell's thesis that the sloppiness of language leads to a sloppiness of thought.
They dont care what the word socialist means, as long as it is still effective to get stupid Americans all angry.

Sadly, using the world socialist on this board doesn't work as none of us thinks he is socialist. Those who do, already thought he was without any proof.

Fuck, I do have a clunker.

1993 Saab Conv't with 110k. It's a little like me: old and rusty, but always starts.

I'm not eligible for the CARS programme because the fuel economy is too good. ](*,)

THe icing on the cake for the sheer stupidity of this programme is when I see the porters out back, destroying the engine.

The whole thing just seems so bass ackwards!
