Here's something from the Catechism of the Catholic Church...

"We believe and confess that Jesus of Nazareth, born a Jew of a daughter of Israel at Bethlehem at the time of King Herod the Great and the emperor Caesar Augustus, a carpenter by trade, who died crucified in Jerusalem under the procurator Pontius Pilate during the reign of the emperor Tiberius, is the eternal Son of God made man." Catechism#423

There are a few key points of historical research if anyone has the time to do so, ie; key names in this short paragraph, and it is loaded.

If you are attempting to convince someone about the existence of jesus as portrayed in the bible, you may want to find a source that doesn't begin with the presupposition that he actually existed.

I've read this very comment from you several hundred times over the years..I'm still waiting for you to explain why some 2000 years after his death, Jesus remains such an influence on the lives of hundreds of millions of people....can it all be based upon a fraud...that someone fabricated....that has fooled so many billions of people over the centuries....some fraud....some, Jesus....the fellow you insist never existed.

I think he existed I just don't believe he was magic. He was just a deranged Jew who wanted to be god.

Absolutely yes it can. The duration of a religious practice or the number of people that believe it has absolutely no bearing on the truth of the belief. See: Argumentum ad populum fallacy.

Very true. The gods of Egypt (especially Horus, as considered the first Pharaoh) were worshiped for over 3,000 years, and yet no one is making a case for their historicity.

Unless one is prepared to delve into the history of ancient Egypt - a rare enterprise for most - I doubt whether such entities would be discussed.....whereas, the Jesus story is a source of discussion pursued daily here with great enthusiasm by those anxious to vent their anger at Christians for daring to discuss such contentious matters.

Then why do you spend so much time here discussing the Jesus story.....surely two thousand years has been sufficient time to expose the fraud that is Christianity?:D

Christianity and all of the Abrahamic religions have been exposed as frauds. They are scientifically, historically, anthropologically inaccurate and fly in the face of logic and reason. They are sexist, homophobic, racist, hateful and barbaric and have taken more lives and brutalized more people then any other ideology on the planet.

Of course they are, for you say so.....keep posting, some one might take you seriously.

People don't like letting go of their beliefs, regardless of lack of evidence or evidence to the contrary. In the case of Jesus, there is no contemporary, extra-biblical evidence Jesus even existed. The earliest writings that mention Jesus were scribed decades after he is said to have lived, and christian doctrine doesn't even appear until centuries later. But that doesn't matter much to those who hold their religious beliefs with as much conviction as most do.

It's quite easy to see how religious beliefs are retained even when shown to have questionable origins when looking at more recent religious practices. Take mormonism, where we have a very accurate understanding of the (fraudulent) source by which that religion came into being, yet look at the devotion of the members of that faith. An even more extreme example is Scientology, with the author of that religion stating how he would start a religion to make money, yet you have those just as devoted to that religion as well. Given how dedicated people can be to a faith with known, documented origins of a clearly dubious nature, it is not at all surprising how people could remain so devoted to a religious practice like christianity when the foundation was put in place over two thousand years ago.

I doubt there was an actual historical person "Jesus", but also don't think that really matters in the long run in terms of Christianity's "validity" as such.

I am sure that your opinion matters to you....others, might well not share your well demonstrated prejudice.
