We are having a family al fresco dinner in two weeks and it used to be that we could could roe for next to nothing and have some in the fridge all the time. Apparently that ship has sailed and so for my devilled eggs, I had to order an actual tin of Sturgeon caviar.

It is likely the last in a lifetime occasion to have this side of the family all together including my dear and lovely Aunt so I am trying to do all the favourites.

What is the most extravagant or silliest thing you've ever sprung for a party or a family gathering?

Champagne or smoked salmon probably. I don't think anyone in my family would thank me for caviar.

Baklava, reputedly some of the best in Queens, at a place about a 12-minute walk from home.
Well, it was Syrian, so baklawa.

It wasn't for a family gathering, though, it was gifts for some of the nurses who taking care of, and dealing with, my mother. It was something I knew they couldn't get, or at least not on that level, in Charleston, and it was relatively easy to transport.
