CF funding dropped-it only affects white males

How exactly does anyone benefit from this? I'm a non-white and I certainly don't see this as any form of "benefit."
That was sort of the point: The funding was cancelled becaused non-whites weren't the main beneficiaries of this. Please keep up.

Oh Lord, here goes RG ranting about the plight of the white man again.

Lord, here goes Marley attempting to stir stuff up again. I'm just saying: It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if they had blocked funding for, say, sickle cell anemia because it only benefitted black people. Just noting that they apparently expected people to back off because it involved white men, and not some other gender/race.

Actually, this is pretty much the definition of politically correctness; if anyone is gong to benefit it has to be non-white, non-male. It's fine to discriminate as long as it's against white males....

No, political correctness has to to do with showing cultural and social sensitivity out of respect for diversity, particularly with regard to the use of language. It's not always a bad thing. I would say 90 percent of the actvitity surrounding what might be termed "polictical correctness" has to do with lessening bias in communication. That's where the term "correct" comes from: choosing one's words (correctly). Chooosing to say "person of Chinese heritage," rather than "Chinaman," or "person with a disability,: versus "cripple."

Politically correct usuage of language is encouraged and praticed in academia, journalism, business, government, and even some religion.

The tendency to brand every, anti-intellectual, act of stupidity as "another example of political correctness" is factually incorrect and slurs good people who have worked for decades to introduce higher levels of inclusiveness and fairness in the use of language.

Refusing to help people in need is worng, and it's not "politically correct" by any historical definition.

The term is usually used with some sense of irony, usually because it's been used without thinking about the consequences. Although I'm all for diversity, I do have a problem when the application of political correctness results in forced homogenization, or when it results in new forms of discrimination or supremacy. In this case, funding to a specific disease has been cancelled due to reasons of political correctness rather of humanitarian reasons.

It's neat that you know the dictionary definition, but you seem to have forgotten the usage of the term...

^People use all sorts of terms in any number of ways.
Admittedly. However, that doesn't make the use of them acceptable. It's nifty to point out all sorts of things, but the use of "politically correct" within the the context of this thread is that it's something that's not always desirable. Heck, only recently has it gained any kind of positive meaning.

Just because you say something doesn't make it so.
Heh. The irony...

Babygaypimp made a lotta sense in his post, your rebuttal is "I can use the word any way I want."
Nooooo....My rebuttal is that the usage is general derogatory, in that it implies a certain level of homogenization taken to the extreme, where differences between groups are ignored in favor of their sameness, and that anything that leads to differentiation between groups is bad. In other words, there is a specific usage I'm keeping in mind, and it's apparently not the same as Babygaypimp's usage.

And apparently the Urban Dictionary tends to agree with me...
