I pretty much hate the American media but I despise ABC the most of the networks. So when they announced that pompous Charlie Gibson was stepping down I thought "things can't get worse." Well, Diane Sawyer, who is just a total bitch, is taking over the evening news and George Stephanopolous is moving to GMA. I know George and he is high on the pompous meter as well. I suspect ratings will fall for GMA and the evening news. George is just not a bubbly personality and when he tries he comes across as insincere (and yes I have told him so).

I hate to be sexist but I think Sawyer's age is going to be a factor. She's old and looks like a hag with a bad facelift. Maybe they wanted that look as a contrast to Katie Couric, but men can do old and some women can do old, but Sawyer can't.
Its a tragedy being written in real time.

do what i do, i don't watch it.....

LOL. Not many do and I don't on a regular basis. But if there is a big news story - and who's fucking who is not news to me - I will turn it on.

I like George Stephanopolous on "This Week" on Sunday morning but I can't see him on GMA at all. I actually think his "pompous" attitude works for him during his interviews, he's able to go head to head with anyone.

I usually don't have the time to watch the evening news, but I always watch the Sunday shows.

I agree about George S. He can't do fluff so WHY did ABC makes this move?! And it cracks me up that they're going for the same racial make-up as Today and CBSTM with the hiring of Juju Chang. Ah, political correctness....

I don't know this Change but why do you assume she was not hired on merit?

Stephanopolous is being groomed to take over when Sawyer departs and you never move from a Sunday show to the evening news.

SO....lemmie see "you told him so" what? you picked him up in a gay bar?

and do we have to have this age discrimination convo again? you should look so good at 63 as Diane Sawyer --- you wanna pick on old ladies go start a baba walters thread.
I think Diane S. has earned her stripes - she's been around - and survived the "good ol' boys" for many many many years - - That has to count for something !!!
Sorry they (ABC) didn't consult you prior to the changes.

This thread belongs in C&E BTW.. or could you call it Entertainment?

If that's the case then the 3 morning network news shows should've hired minorities back, say, when blondes Joan Lunden and Jane Pauley ruled the roost. It's not like that there weren't qualified Asian newscasters back in the 80's.

I still do watch network news.

CNN and Fox are not my cup of tea...

I get my evening news from Katie Couric and the folks at CBS. CBS is the network news operation that Murrow and Cronkite built, and Dan Rather almost ruined. They have survived, and now feature some veteran talent (David Martin, Bob Orr, Bill Plante, Armen Keteyan, Dean Reynolds, etc...) mixed with some newer faces that have a whole lot of talent (Ben Tracy, Jeff Glor, Lara Logan, Chip Reid, etc...) Any network newscast that still pays tribute to Cronkite each night by having his voice introduce the news, is all right with me.

I get my morning news from ABC, as a viewer of "Good Morning America." While I am not thrilled with the changes, I do understand them. Diane Sawyer will bring her wealth of Washington savvy and insights to ABC World News.
I think it's interesting that two of the Big Three networks have regular female anchors now. I don't think that George Stephanopoulos will have as easy a transition to GMA. He's a political reporter and Washington insider. I don't see him handling the celebrity interview as easily as Diane did. Chris Cuomo will do well at "20/20." His style, as well as his law degree, will make him a valuable contributor to that show. Juju Chang will be fine as news anchor on GMA. She's handled it as a fill-in many, many times. But I think the network missed the boat on David Muir. He's smart, articulate, and easy on the eyes! He should have been either in George's or Juju's place. It will be interesting to see if GMA's rartings remain steady or drop, like they did when Kevin Newman (a fine Canadian journalist who just wasn't suited to the GMA style) was co-host.

When I want news, I read it on the internet or watch clips of the stories I want to hear. That way I don't have to listen to these people.

When Charlie goes...so does ABC for me. I can't stand Diane Sawyer. Nixonite hack.

This is why I get my news from the Onion.

I noticed that Sam Champion seems to be hung. He likes to shake his legs a bit. I miss Chris Cuomo. He is hot ,and made the news watchable.

Don't sell Diane Sawyer short. She's had a long career covering everything from world leaders and events, natural disasters, wars and the celeb puff pieces. She has the chops and is right up there with Babara Walters
Gearge will have a tough time fitting in on GMA but according to ABC they want to try to make GMA a little more serious and a little less fluffy and friendly.
Now if Disney would just stop using GMA as a platform to plug everything Disney Corporate it'll do just fine.

Sawyer also worked for Nixon and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

i have'nt watch (CBS) news since Bob Schieffer left
i just catch most of my new via Yahoo

That was my favorite nightly newscast. Bob Schieffer was top-notch and he brought his own personable style to the broadcast. Nothing against Katie Couric but when she took over him for him, the show lost that down home charm that Bob exuded.
