Chaz Bono - Dancing With The Stars - RE: Controversy

Good for him. And, as usual, shame on this pathetic fucking country.

Absolutely.

His public presence has the potential to give young transpeople (and those of any age) the knowledge and inspiration to come to terms with their own identities. This is a really positive thing.

I'll probably get crucified for this, but let the transgenders fight their own fight. God knows gays have enough on their plates. To me, they belong more in a body dysmorphic category than with any sexual orientation category. Team up with the anorexics and bulimics. Seems more fitting to me. *More* but not an exact match. I exaggerate to make my point.

Transgendered people themselves admit that it's not about sex, but about how they feel in their own skin. How is that in any way related to being gay or to sexual orientation?

ABC should show the following disclaimer when airing the show "Warning - Viewing this show may cause girls to grow a penis. Parental discretion is advised."

I think gender and sex get bundled up into one package, since people don't really know the difference, and because they are admittedly linked. If the gender does not match the sex, we have issues, and generally people are attracted both to the gender and the sex of someone.

Furthermore, many believe that leaving behind any minority group that is being oppressed is unacceptable, a "First they came..." mentality.

Would acceptance come about faster if transgender and transsexual people were left out of the "pride" movement? Possibly, I'd go so far as to say probably. But is it worth it to turn on a minority group suffering in the same way as us, just to gain our own goals faster?

It's interesting to know that there's not a peep of controversy about Carson Kressley being on the show. On a brighter note, this country has come a long long way in accepting an openly gay person on primetime TV...and no sponsors are pulling their ads from the show.

So let's add anorexics and bulimics to the ever growing "LGBT" umbrella. Oh and black pride (we could have a whole pride month, albeit the shortest, then). And any other "minority." Pretty soon it will be ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ day / month / issues for us to confront...together. Nothing will be lost in the confusion. They can all get on floats and dance in assless chaps or topless to further their cause!

And why don't drag queens have their own acronym in there as well. That takes care of D and Q. Two letters with one blow.

GLBTABEQ...who else can we include? P for pedophiles? R for rapist? F for furries? (Again, I exaggerate to make a point.)

My god. Stop hiding behind the ugly PC gay flag and admit that I'm right. This crap is why I've now been to a "pride" event in over 10 years. I call it "Gay shame day" because in my opinion, we display the worst of the LGBT culture, not the best.

^ Oh settle down Mary.

In this controversy, how many people are transphobic and how many of them just don't want to see Chaz Bono dance?

You seem totally pissed off for no reason, and your slippery slope fallacy is illogical and stupid.

Anorexia and bulimia have nothing to do with gender or sexuality, they are diseases that need treatment. Blacks, again, are not part of this "sexuality" group and they already have a long-standing history of maintaining their own independence.

The length of the acronym is not important, the important thing is that we include people who share similar oppression for similar issues regarding sexuality and gender. Could furries be included? Maybe, they just don't face any legal opposition and their preference probably isn't significant enough to be considered an "orientation". What about pedophiles? It's my personal opinion that we as a society need to find some way to deal with them, because being attracted to children is not that bad part; the bad part is taking advantage of non-consenting entities, aka children. We should try to figure out some way to help deter child molestation by providing alternatives, like fictional stories, but that's a completely different conversation. Rapists commit crimes that have nothing to do with their sexuality; they can be gay, straight, furry, pedo, it doesn't matter, it's just unconsenting sex which is a straight-up crime.

And your last part is completely divergent. You appear to say that the promiscuity and in-your-face sexuality displayed at pride events is caused exclusively by transsexual and transgender people? What utter bullshit. I myself am no big supporter of the excessive sexual and promiscuous actions displayed at these events, but that has NOTHING to do with the "T" in "LGBT" and ostracizing them has nothing to do with it. Don't be such an idiot.

No offense intended but what are the odds Chaz will be one of the first contestants eliminated?

The odds are slim that he will be one of the first few eliminated. DWTS is similar to American Idol in how popularity with the viewers can carry a contestant far with the show. Having Cher for a mother is certainly going to keep Chaz on the show for awhile, if his dancing does not. Knowing ABC, I am sure they will try hard to have Cher make some appearances for ratings sake.

In addition to Cher, Chaz just has incredible underdog appeal. I would be totally shocked if he does not make it past the first few weeks.

There is no way in hell he's going home week one. He's here to stay!

I don't understand why this is controversial? What Chaz Bono's mere existance on a tv show? Because he's transgendered, is that it?

That can't be it, has to be something else.
