When we lived in the big smoke (Toronto) (it is Canuckistan after all), we were within steps or a short subway ride to the markets and the best butchers, cheesemongers, seafood sellers, bakers....well yeah.

Out here in the boonies, we are lucky that we have found the best butchers and have access to a couple of okay other food outlets.

But on Saturday, we took my sister for an adventure and got some real (Dutch) great Gouda, some Stilton and some Red Leicester cheeses and this week we will sock up on some great Italians and French as well.

I won't eat supermarket cheese, except the President's Choice Cheddar that we use in cooking...because life is too short and I was raised on only great cheeses.

Do you have a favourite cheese?

I like pretty much any cheese other than the blue ones which I really can't stand. It's hard to beat an extra-mature Cheddar, but I also like Swaledale and Wensleydale. I've also retained rather childish tastes, as evidenced by the pack of Laughing Cow currently in my fridge.

:rotflmao:

It is still an absolute amazement to me that my Dutch uncle hates cheese.

Époisses is sensational (very smelly, too; but then, all of the best French cheeses are), but I've recently found a British goats cheese of a similar texture which I enjoy just as much, called Capricorn.

You can't beat a good creamy-yet-tangy farmhouse Lancashire cheese, either; especially when paired with delicious baby onions pickled in sweet sherry vinegar.

I love sharp cheddar topped with onion or sometimes garlic salt. Blame it on my grandfather, he fed it to me every day during childhood. It’s one of my earliest memories.

grocery store block cheese is perfectly fine with me.

Not a big fan of Red Leicester even though it is my local cheese. Too bland for my taste
I like a nice very mature cheddar

Yea ^

I was just going to say how about a Double Cream Brie from Trader Joe's wrapped in phyllo dough. Brush with butter and bake until it starts oozing out.

Served with some good apricot jam and homemade toast points.

My standard cheese board always consisted of big wedges of Brie,Stilton,Jarlsberg,Extra sharp cheddar and Havarti cheese. Sometimes with dill.

BTW rareboy. Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar and their cheddar with parmesan are top rate. Both supermarket cheeses.

Rachel ray used gouda in a fan submission burger recipe called "i bet my burger can beat up your burger" but I cant find the recipe cuz a deep google search yields zero results as if the episode never existed. And it wasnt a drunken or drug induced hallucination because i distinctly remember being introduced to "smoke sweet paprika" and also that dill and cumin and beer were in the recipe.

You know, this thread could have gone a different way, like to the fetish section. Ewww! Anyway, I like a medium to sharp cheddar for eating. I love to have fruit with my cheese. I also like the little Laughing cow cheeses. because they stay fresh longer.

pretty much everything but limburger, maggot cheese, and bleu cheese!

I am addicted to pepper jack cheese sticks but so are alot of other people because they are sold out every day and hard to find. Pepper Jack is the only cheese I use except for swiss sometimes.

Mostly stick to the strong cheddar range though i do like Gorgonzola on pizza.

Yup Vannie--that Cabot Seriously sharp cheese is my go- to supermarket cheese.
