Cheney Defends His Silence on Gay Marriage in 2000

10 POINTS FOR JAYHAWK!!!

And I promise I'll find a knight to poke you good...

I could have *sworn* this thread was about Cheney's silence over gay marriage in 2000.

But, I'll play along. One of the greatest Koch brother-funded tea party victories revolved around just two simple words, "debt ceiling".

To the Obama hating, uninformed teabags swinging from their hats tea party members, (God bless their simple minded souls) The phrase, "raise the debt ceiling" meant to them that we'd be giving more money to that black Kenyan in The White House who was already threatening to let his socialist government take over their Medicare and not allowing them to "take their country back".

Back from *whom* is an interesting question, but I think most of us here understand the racist underpinning of that statement.

Trying to explain to these good folks that raising the debt ceiling just meant increasing our budget to pay for the money we had ALREADY SPENT fell on deaf and dumb ears. (And it still does...)

Let's break it down to the simplest level: "Bubba, if you run up a $1,000 balance on your Visa card, and when the bill comes due you decide not to pay it - are you saving money or destroying your credit rating ? "

Bubba's answer, assuming that concept even got through to him would be, "We need to get that socialist Negro out of our White House".

It's a losing battle. And the fact that a large handful of candidates were successfully elected on this platform of stupidity is a notion beyond terrifying.

Even Karl Rove must be thinking, "Hell ! That was a little TOO easy !"

Nicely done there.

A thread about Cheney's betrayal of his daughter and his own principles regarding homo marriage gets derailed into another troll thread about Obama's presidency.

It is a reflection of why the US can't seem to get anything done regarding rights for homos.

JONATHAN KARL: Does he (Obama) deserve some credit on the issue of gay marriage, being the first president to come out and say he’s in favor of gay marriage?
DICK CHENEY: You know, that’s– that’s– up to him. I made my statement on that subject 12 years ago.
JONATHAN KARL: What’s your stance? Is that a generational thing? I mean, are we getting to the point– one thing President Obama said is that– his daughters were kind of influential in– in coming out. They– they didn’t understand why could there be a problem. I mean, is– is that issue even gonna be relevant in 20 or 30 years?
DICK CHENEY: I don’t know that it’s relevant now. You know? There are a lot of big issues. And I’m sure that’s a big issue for some people obviously. But I don’t think the election’s gonna turn on that issue.
JONATHAN KARL: Do you wish you had pushed a little harder on that issue?
DICK CHENEY: Why?

My God the man is unbefuckinglievable.

Cue his mindlessly devoted supporters.

With a statement like this, he essentially utterly negates the idea that his own daughter's rights have any meaning to him at all.

Dick Cheney says he didn't see the point of raising the issue of gay marriage in the 2000 presidential campaign, even though he supported it.

Cheney sounds like the perfect vice presidential nominee for Mitt Romney - a man who refuses to tell us what he really believes until 12 years after the election.

This is kinda odd to me. On one hand I'd rather have a root canal with no drugs than to agree with Dickless Cheney but he was trying to win an election. I can understand being silent on the issue and trying to win but its another thing when its your child (or her life as she was born to live it) is being talked about in the news as being immoral and doesn't deserve the same rights as you do, etc and you sit by silently. Granted, when you have plenty of money, things can be overlooked and I'm sure his daughter will never hurt for money and thanks to where she lives, she is allowed to marry her partner.

Clinton was able to work with a republican congress ---- why not this guy? The answer: Obama doesn't want to work with Congress.

Don't be revisionist Jack! The Republican obstructionism led by Newt Gingrich in 1994-1995 completely blew up in their faces and (after the debacle of the Republican led government shutdown which was blamed squarely on their shoulders) they had NO CHOICE but to stop being obstructionist and start working with the president after 1995 if they ever hoped to see another Republican elected to congress.

I'll have respect for this snarling madman if finally admits his war crimes and crimes against humanity. We'll all join in with countless millions in a happy dance when he turns into worm food.

What a waste of a transplanted heart.

It's amazing zeros like Springer are still blaming Obama when it's the obstructionist congress that won't work with him. Not even a compromise.
