CHAPTER 1

Robert Bustamante waited in line like he had for the last 3 months buying soft drinks, candy and what ever crap was available near the cashier. He didn't care he just wanted to see the cashier and garner enough courage to at least say hi.

Roland Cruz worked as a cashier at his local grocery store. He was a hard worker that took his job very seriously, but he had dreams. He had dreams of writing movies as a matter of fact since he was a little boy he looked at the world around him as if it were one big movie and he was the director.

Robert, waited in line hoping that he would have the courage to at least say hi. He was captivated by Roland. He felt something around him he had not felt in a very long time. He knew he had to speak to this young man. He knew that he had to get to know him. He could not explain what he was feeling. He felt a connection. It was as if every day for the few minutes he spent face to face with him everything else disappeared. Nothing else mattered, he thought he was going crazy. How could he feel this way about a total stranger?

He was next, Roland scanned the candy bar. Robert looked at him their eyes locked and he stuttered the words “Hi.. how ..are you doing?” Roland looked at him thinking to himself poor guy he must be special needs. “I'm fine, how are you?” he asked Robert. Robert, relaxed a bit and said “I'm fine thank you.” Roland quickly realized that Robert was not special needs. “That will be $ 1.07 for the candy.” Robert quickly gave him the exact change he already knew how much the candy was, as many times as he waited in line to buy it. “Thank you” Robert said grabbing the candy bar. “Do you want your receipt?” Roland asked as Robert was walking away. Robert nodded no, and walked out the door.

Robert couldn't believe what had just happened. He walked home. He only lived 3 blocks away so he would walk to and from the grocery store he figured he could always use the exercise. He'd would also save a little on gas. This time as he walked home he couldn't feel the ground beneath his feet. Since Robert first laid eyes on Roland 3 months ago. That little exchange of words they had in the store was the longest so far. Robert was over the moon. He knew that he would be back tomorrow. Though Roland had no set schedule it mattered not to Robert just the chance to see him was worth the walk.

As he got close to home he had realized that he had been smiling since he left the grocery store. He goes inside the home he shares with his mother and his little brother. His mother was busy cooking some terrible meal that he would later lie and say how wonderful it was. "Roberto, you go to the store all the time, and come back just with candy or a soft drink" Patsy asked her son. "It's nothing I like the walk" he said. She looked at him suspicious of his answer, but she let it go.

Robert walked into his room. His walls covered with classic movie posters. He goes over to his computer the printer had finished printing his screenplay "Untitled No. 4 by Robert Bustamante"

END OF CHAPTER 1

Interesting start - A film score starring a handsome checkout clerk - that could be hot!

Bobeeboi.....good to see another story. This one sounds great. Little do these two know how much they have in common. Robert just needs to be a little more forward. And Roland can use a partner in his movie dreams. I look forward to the next chapter.

CHAPTER 2

It was the following day, and Robert was reading the last scene of the screenplay he had just finished printing yesterday. It was trash some ridiculous story about a group of friends that go to specific parks to engage in anonymous gay sex. He thought it was fantastic. He thought it was edgy, and sexy. He believed that at 92 pages it was not only the longest he had written, but without a doubt the best. He also believed it needed no revisions, and any corrections.

Roland was getting ready for work he had picked up an extra shift so he was going to be at work all day. Roland lived with his mother, and his little brother. His father had abandoned them when Roland was 10. For the past 11 years he's been the man of the house. His mother would work as a caregiver for the sick and elderly while that brought in a nice income it wasn't nearly enough.

Roland always felt guilty in a way. He felt that he could never repay the sacrifices he felt his mother had made to raise her two boys. The reality was his mother loved him, and she felt he did to much for the family she worried that he was not enjoying his life.

Robert, also lived with his mother, and his little brother. While Roland was a good son Robert had been less than stellar. His mother worked as a private caregiver to a wealthy old lady. She was paid handsomely for her work which consisted of her basically keeping the old lady company. So Robert and his brother had the house to themselves for months at a time.

Robert, was in his mid 30's he had done every drug known to man. He smoked a pack of cigarettes a day, and even though he was now overweight he still felt arrogant enough to believe that he could seduce anyone he wanted which was far from the truth.

Robert had always been an arrogant gay man that had no problems going after someone that turned him on. He couldn't understand why this guy made him weak in the knees. Why he stammered, every time he tried to speak to him. As he finished dressing for his daily visit to the grocery store to get a glimpse of someone that turned him on physically. Someone he felt a connection to. As silly as it sounds someone he felt he had known in another place and in another time.

Roland was having a bad day by the time Robert arrived in the store. Robert looks around, and spots him in the express checkout section which was far less embarrassing than when Roland had a regular cashier aisle considering he would only buy one thing. One time Robert had to wait 30 minutes just to buy a soft drink ; because the two people in front of him had so much shit and one of them complained about the price of an item. He didn't care. He always had to see Roland in the eyes at least once a day.

Today Robert decided on a soft drink instead of a candy bar. There are about 5 people in front of him. He was so happy patiently waiting. When it happened the unthinkable. The cashier next to Roland had run out of customers, and was calling to Robert that he was free. Robert ignored him the guy asked again loudly people turned around looking at Robert waiting for him to do something. “I'm OK here.” he whispered. “What sir?” the guy asked loudly. “I'm fine here thank you” Robert replied loud enough for everyone to hear including Roland who looked up and smiled at Robert . Two people in front of Robert took advantage of the empty cashier. Robert was trying to keep it together. He thought he was going to pass out. That smile was one that he would never forget.

So Robert was next. Roland said, “Hi how are you doing today?” Robert replied. “OK I guess it's been real busy I'd rather be watching a movie.” Roland said. “I know I love movies, I love them so much that I like to write them.”Robert said. Roland looked at him in shock. “I'm a big movie freak, and I want to write several screenplays” Roland said.

Robert excited beyond belief. “ I..I.. jjust wrote one.” Robert stuttered out a sentence. “Really, wow that's amazing” Roland said excited. “I could tell you about it if you're interested?” Robert asked. The person waiting in line behind Robert moaned. Robert wanted to punch out the fat bitch.

“I pull a double today, but I have a 30 minute break at 3 if you would like to talk about I'll be waiting on one of the benches outside.”

“Great I'll be here”

“OK see you then.”

Robert walked away and forgot his soft drink. Roland yelled at him “Hey” Robert turns around grabs the soda “My name is Robert.”

“Nice to meet you Robert my name is.”

“Roland” Robert cuts him off pointing at his name tag. “Nice to meet you too.”

Robert walked out of the store the happiest he had been in years..

END CHAPTER 2

So, your two men have a chance to meet outside of the store - looking forward to the next developments!

Robert finally asserted himself and now has a 30 minute date with Roland..... Good for him. This will be interesting to see how things pan out. Thank, bobeeboi, for the update.

Chapter 3

Roberts' legs couldn't carry him fast enough back to the store. He was to have 30
minutes with a man he's been dreaming of for a long while. As he approached the store he noticed that Roland wasn't sitting on the designated bench out in front of the store.

He figured he was just running late. So he sat on the bench. He waited for ten minutes until finally he decided to go into the store, and find Roland.

It wasn't hard to find him since he was in the same aisle he was in earlier in the day. Robert smiled at Roland. Roland picked up the phone intercom, and said F10 to aisle 4.

As Robert approached he could tell something was different with Roland he looked very tense. “Hey I waited for you on the bench you never showed up.” Robert said. Roland looked at him, and then looked around. He looked less tense as a burly tall man approached the aisle.

“Sir I have no idea what you are talking about. I know who you are. You've been coming to my aisle for a while now, but you've never spoken to me.” The burly man was now behind Robert making him a little uncomfortable.

“Don't be silly your name is Roland Cruz, and you love movies and you are interested in screenwriting.” Robert said. “Sir my name is Roland Cruz, but I'm not a movie fan nor am I interested in writing a screenplay.” Roland said. “Sir I'm going to have to ask you to leave.” The burly man behind Robert said. He was one of the stores' security officers, and Roland had called him when he saw that Robert was walking to him.

“This is fucking crazy I just spoke to you early this day how can you not remember?” Robert asked. “ Sir, you are making me very uncomfortable you have to leave.” Roland said. The burly man grabbed Robert by the arm. “Don't fucking touch me I'll leave I don't know what the fuck is going on here, but I will find out.

Robert walked out the store freaking out not understanding what had just transpired. He got home took some aspirin as he was experiencing a slight headache. He decided to take a nap. He thought maybe when he woke up this would all make sense.

As he was slowly drifting off to sleep the door bell rang . He wasn't expecting company none the less he dragged his tired body out of the bed and to the door . When he opened the door it was Roland. “Go away” Robert said. “Please let me in Robert I'm sorry about what happened” Roland begged.

Robert wanted to just close the door, and forget he ever spoke to this guy. He wishes he could erase him from his mind. Against his better judgment he let him in. “Thanks Robert I'm so glad you let me in” Robert walked back to his room Roland followed.

“I like that poster ” Roland said. “It's one of my favorite movies” Robert replied. “Why did you deny me at the store, and why did you say you were not a movie fan are you even writing a script?” Robert asked. “This is going to sound like a cop out, but I don't know why I lied about everything of course I'm writing a script, but isn't it more important that I'm here apologizing.”

Robert thought about it for a few seconds. “You're right please just never deny me again.” Robert said. “Don't worry Robert I'm going to be around for a while.” Roland said smiling. “Would you like to read a couple of pages of the script I just finished? Robert asked. “Yes”

Roland began reading the first page. As Robert sat there admiring Rolands' beauty he realized something. “Roland how did you find out where I lived?” He asked. “You told me.” Roland answered. “No I never did.” Robert said. “Oh what does it matter?” Roland asked.

Robert looked at him he said nothing for a second or two. Then he spoke “You're not real are you?” Robert asked. “I'm as real as you want me to be.” Roland replied. He puts the script down, and looks at Robert. “Am I going crazy?” Robert asked. “I don't know.” Roland replied.

“I'm here now Robert is there anything you want me to do?” Robert looked at the hallucination in front of him. He could only come up with one response “ Will you lie by me while I fall asleep?” Roland nodded his head in agreement. Robert got on his bed. Roland joined him, and Robert wrapped his arms around him.

THE END.

I'm so sorry for the delay I've been going through some personal problems. Let's just say I lost my muse. Thank you for your patience.

Sorry to hear things have been rough, bobeeboi. I hope things are better now. Don't ever worry about writing, we will always be here when your muse's are in better spirits.

A very interesting ending to "Cherry." Sometimes we are better off with the alternative plane of existence. Reality can be devastating at times.
