Chick Fil A, and the Anti Gay Companies You Would Never Believe You Support With Your Money

Myself: I'm not so sure I want to blur the lines of my commercial buying power vs my political values. I've grow fatigued of a society constantly bickering red state vs blue state....Christian values vs Non-Christian. At some point, I like seperation; I need a wall. We have to live as one. Lots of opinions lie in our commericial marketplace (hell, far more businesses donate to the GOP anyway) and if I expect people to tolerate me then I need to tolerate others' viewpoints. Is my $ spent at Cfa being used against me? Perhaps. Then again, if Romney wins the election, my money (taxes) will be used to marginalize me as well. That has always been the case under GOP rule.

Cfa is dumbly being old school with their morality in business approach. But, it's a private company who post signs in every store informing of their mission, "To Glorify God..." (they are transparent); their employees are taught customer service in training classes routed in the Bible and its lessons of service. Like Wal-mart, they are going to learn as they leave their comfort zone of the South, some of these ol' Christian values aren't going to fly so well in the blue states. One the one hand, I'm kinda glad to see this issue is causing them a PR nightmare; but, in such a an atagonistic, partisan county, it can work 2 ways. If Christians start boycotting companies that support gay marriage, for example, in an organized fashion, it would swamp our little boycott...matter of numbers--approx 3-8% of the population is gay, but 45-50% is Christian.

Not nearly a substantial minority of Christians would have anything to do with a boycott. If you haven't noticed, outfits like the 'Family Research Council' call for boycotts constantly -- and if Christians responded noticeably, a number of major companies would be in serious trouble. I haven't noticed Pepsi or Disney hurting, though.

The funny part is, there are a lot more companies out there that support marriage equality. Tell me when the anti-gay bigots stop using Google and Apple products. I want to say Microsoft too but not 100% on that.

As for the Boston banning chick-fil-a, my hometown (pop: 16k) has a ban on fast food, 24-hour stores and drive thrus for that matter. Hell, you can still find "dry" towns across America. Towns and cities alike can enact whatever rules the towns/cityfolk want to enact. It's the reason that the casino on Foxborough that was gonna be built near Gillette Stadium got canned was because the town didn't want to repeal their ban on 24-hour businesses.

Yes. But not only that; to own a business and to be political is stupid. There is no saying that any business, no matter its success, will last forever. And if customers take their patronage elsewhere, they can do so for whatever reason. They don't have to have reason. Plenty have gone under in the last few years. And no matter how many locations there are of Chick-Fil-A, there is no divine spirit that will keep them forever in operation.

The Chick-fil-a I frequent is the first and only Black owned Chick joint in the City...I will continue to support them as long as they continue to provide good customer service...

That's nice Sammie, I've checked that list and don't shop at any of those companies. Urban Outfitters is one I've never shopped in. And one not listed is Forever 21... kinda borderline. They are pretty ambiguous about it... they seem to hire plenty of gay employees. But why can't one express outrage because of the clear message the CFA president is sending? Not the old family centered company you tried to paint it as right? By the way, there are many moderate Christians that do support gay marriage.

Guess I am , to quote the company president, "guilty as charged". With 20 years of great customer service from them (I mainly use them for my customers who love breakfast from there), I gave Cfa every benefit of the doubt. I was genuinely hurt to hear him blatantly admit how anti-gay their family is. I don't feel most of their employees share those sentiments but it doesn't matter.

I have let Cfa know how disgusted I am with their policy and the amount of business that I will attempt to steer elsewhere. You're right and I was wrong, but understand, it's easy for you, I have two decades of close ties with them...know their people and know how well I've been treated. Thursday, I was having some work done on my car around lunch time. I was hungry and Cfa sets directly beside the repair shop. I usually go to Cfa and relax, grab a meal and tasty diet lemonade, and read the USA Today's they set out for customers. But, you'll be proud of me, on this day, I just walked right thru the middle of their busy parking lot en route to a little italian eatery.

Is it weird that republican gays around here aren't just supporting the other party, but also all of its anti-gay policies and anyone else who supports them? I think it's weird. Does anybody else think it's weird?
