Chick-fil-A opening near West Hollywood

It's a fast food place. It's a revival place. I hope their supplier doesn't obtain its meat by "choking the chicken."
 
^I think for most, it's not that. It's their corporate politics, and what they openly support...which is organizations that support bigotry and actively work against equality.
I think that's a huge issue.

There's one on campus where I work. They'll never get any of my money. I don't care how good their food is supposed to be. It's right up there with Cracker Barrel as an anti-gay establishment.

Nice. You took the least healthiest items on their menu. Why not run your calorie count using Chick-fil-A's salads, grilled chicken wraps, and sides of fresh fruit?

Chick-fil-A's corporate political views aside, the new Chick-fil-A in the Hollywood area is arguably located in a very liberal neighborhood -- most likely the most liberal neighborhood they have ever opened a franchise.

I drove by the site of their future restaurant a while ago, and I noticed there is a tattoo parlor, a psychic, and a medical marijuana clinic directly across the street. Further down the street there is a huge cathedral-kind of a church which has a giant red ribbon (the AIDS ribbon) etched on the church tower. The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center headquarters are about a block away. The bilboards along Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue advertise movies with a lot of violence & sex, public service announcements for free testing for STDs & HIV, a pro-Wikileaks advertisement, and a giant ad for RuPaul's Drag Race.

This is clearly not the typical kind of "God fearing" neighborhood that Chick-fil-A would usually open a restaurant.

However, the Hollywood "walk of fame", the Kodak Theatre, and Mann's Chinese Theater are located nearby -- which attract a TON of tourists. I have a hunch that even if the locals try to boycott this place, Chick-fil-A can count on all of those hordes of tourists from the Midwest & South & "Middle America" to make up for any lost business.
 
No, I don't think it's any different than McObese, Burger Bulge, or any other fast food joint. Why did I pick that item? Because no one on this thread talked about their salads, including you. Instead, the fried chicken carcass sandwiches were exalted.

Obesity is not a disease, it is a choice. Sorry, but nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. A person with obesity issues cannot, and must not eat this type of food with any regularity if they are wanting to be at an ideal weight, period.

Every fried chicken carcass sandwich brings only more stretch marks, erectile dysfunction, weight gain, sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart attacks closer and closer to reality.

That's an awfully simplistic view of obesity. While obesity is mostly linked to diet & a sedentary lifestyle (i.e. little to no exercise), genetics plays a role as well. Some people have a greater propensity to be overweight than others.

The Pima tribe of Native Americans, are almost all overweight, and it's believed that genetics play a role in their being morbidly obese.

At the end of the day, they're an American corporation. Glorify God or not... their goal is to make money. Period.
Doesn't matter who they get it from...just that they get it.
And then they'll do whatever they want with it...including using it to support major organizations that think you, me...us...are the scum of the earth.

Just like those mega-preachers (and most churches), like that Joel Osteen, that say "well, we believe in scripture...so no, we don't think homosexuality is God's best plan for you... but hey, we have gay friends, gay church members, and everyone is welcome at our church" ... yeah, so while they serve you their product with a smile on their face yet don't want to see you as equal, it doesn't matter because they get one thing and one thing only - your money.

Are you that needing for their approval? Maybe I'm just apathetic, but at the end of the day, I couldn't care less about what philosophies, principals or politics Chick-fil-A holds or supports. Just take my money and give me my food. In the meantime, if anyone has any moral objection to their stance, then they should just eat somewhere else. Don't support their business.

One of my professors in cultural history explained that we had two choices. To be happy pigs or unhappy philosphers.

I guess happy pigs just only care about getting to the trough.

I have never been to a chick-fil-a and never will. I won't support hate groups no matter how seductive their food may be.

To me, it helps me understand how people like the Nazis' got away with what they did and how they were able to get the support from fellow Germans as well as people from other countries (like Henry Ford). I don't know if it is genetic or if it is just something that happens during development. Maybe our brains are wired differently. Maybe there is just a different mix of chemicals in our brain. I don't know. I can't really relate to apathy and stuff like this helps me understand it better.
