I'm Chinese (and Chinese was my first language), but English is my primary language nowadays.

Hey Dousedfirepants, I've noticed that you're totally out already. Are you really just 18? If you are you're so lucky, it's really painful staying in the closet. I'm 26 (not 27 as my profile says) yet only my mates know that I'm not straight. And I only started crawling out of the closet slowing since 2004.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner! I was moving into my dorm and adjusting to college life....and...[insert excuse here].

But yeah. I'm completely out. I tried to come out to my parents when I was fourteen, and they're still in denial. My sister knows, and even though we never talk about it, I think she's coping really well. I think all of my good friends know...and if not, I really don't care. Haha...yeah.

But don't force anything upon yourself. You should come out when you want to.

I'm NOT Chinese but speak it as a second language...does that count? If not, good luck finding who you're looking for, haha.

Can someone tell me what CBC or ABC stands for? BTW i am chinese to answer your question + this is my first post, YAY!

Welcome, mysticcrusader!

CBC = Canadian-born Chinese
ABC = American-born Chinese

(Of course, these are just simple acronyms so the letters can stand for different words, but those are the ones I've heard most.)

im 18, american born chinese. chinese was my first language. but i speak english primarly. i have no accents whatsoever. sooo...WHAT'S UP!?!?!?

I was born in Vancouver and my first language is English (so, I'm a CBC). I can understand Cantonese for the most part, but when it comes to speaking the language, I'm pretty bad, but at least I know the simple basic stuff.

Hey, I actually came out to my friends when I was 14 as well (magic number?!) and my parents both know as well. Ugh... to be gay and Asian is hard, and having traditional parents doesn't help either.

Anyway, I'm rambling so I'll stop now.

I'm 23 and I'm an american born chinese. Chinese was my first language also and English was my secondary. But since we're in America, English is slowly becoming my primary -- unless I'm at home with the parentals.

I gather that you've moved away from home. That helps!! I'm still living at home and really want to move out. Of course there's the $$$ factor and I'm studying for a second uni degree for a career change. Long story short, IT is not a good career option here.

Unfortunately I didn't need to move out when I headed off to uni because the place is just 30 minutes away from where I live. I believe in the US it's very common for students to live on campus? In Australia the students who live on campus are mostly overseas students or students from interstate.

I can't wait until I knock over my studies this time next year, that way I'll have more options.

as a big monolingual white guy, i encourage everybody who has english and an asian tongue to keep both of them!

(for one thing, they all sound so cool...)

Heh I am supposedly Chinese (BBC) but can't speak a word of any of the languages! Pretty sad eh!
