He's been doing this routine for a long time. Now people find it, take it out of context, and repost it...suddenly he's got to be stopped?

Allow me to use the cut and paste functions to make pretty much any of us look like flaming fags. Should we all agree to start speaking an octave lower, and trade in our ballet tickets for football? Just so people won't think "we're all like that"?

If people want to use a youtube clip of a comedian for justification to hate homosexuals, they didn't need much convincing, now, did they?

Don't get me wrong, I see what you're saying.

However, when I do my hair, and make-up, and go out in flaming-queen mode, should I just not go out because I may be perpetuating some stereotype or prejudice someone harbours? Oh, and I'm unemployed, too.

So I guess I should just stay inside in case someone make a generalisation.

He can do whatever he wants. I don't respect him though. Why is he getting so much attention? Because he's a typical fag and people know it and they LOVE to stereotype us. .

I like Chris Crocker and actually so do a lot of straight people, including men, who are able to appreciate his acting abilities. I used to live in a commune of theatrical drag queens in San Francisco, and they were very entertaining. I've also had a lot of friends who are/were very much like CC, and I had no problem with that type of behavior.

He's who he is - stop trying to make him to conform to YOUR stereotype! And stop being afraid or intimidated by HIS stereotype - his personality type is a perfectly valid expression and many people do appreciate it. There will always be people like CC, and so you should stop expecting it to go away. If you don't identify with him, fine - neither do I, but I would like to have him as a friend.

I don't like when fellow Hispanics wear all that jewelry, make all that noise and do things that are embarassing to me because it does affect the image that some people have about us.

But I also know that these people would find something, anything to fault us for who we are or for what we are.

because of that I will never blame the person that is acting in a certain way, when in reality it is the people that are being prejudiced that should be blamed. In a way I am grateful for them, because they help me spot the haters easily...

Every time I've seen clips of his Britney video on television, the newscasters and emcees are snickering and laughing at him... You can almost hear them saying, "There! There! You see? You see?"

Paul Lynde and Charles Nelson Reilly (to name two performers) could get away with making fun of themselves, because it wasn't so overt. But Chris Crocker is so over the top, he's not doing the gay population any favors... I for one, wish he'd go back into whatever closet he crawled out of...

No, you can be whoever you want and you should NOT be bashed because you are a queen. It is your choice to go out and do whatever you please. Do you have the balls to defend yourself in a homophobic enviroment?
Let's get away from making this something else it isn't. This is about people using stereotypes like him to make us look like sissy fags.
I am most sure that there are better gays out there that are more news worthy and better role models.

But answer this:

Why is he getting so much attention?

I don't see how he is making you look like anything - other than a reactionary. He's not making you look like a sissy fag - only YOU can do that. Don't blame him for being who he is - and don't expect him to change into something that you happen to find acceptable - he would never expect you to do that for him. And stop worrying about role models. He's a perfectly fine role model, IMO.

He's getting attention because he is entertaining and people like him.

The reason CC got any attention was because he did what he did at the right time. Namely this whole Britney Spears thing. Before that he was just another guy on YouTube. Because Britney's performance was SO bad that everyone was talking about it, and CC reacted in the manner that he did in a world that has YouTube and typing 'Britney Spears' would give you other kinds of links, he came up. So many of us in this board didn't who know CC was until that video had been posted.

Thus proving that if people are basing their homophobia on CC it's been done in order to justify it, not because he initiated it. CC is no different than other comedians that have been that over the top.

CC is not responsible for any homophobia. Homophobes will look for any excuse to target gays. And to say that he is propagating stereotypes, I think Lex said it best when he said that all we would have to do is cut and paste from this board in order to find a 'poster fag'. Just the fact that this board was created on the basis of porn then goes to prove that we gays are nothing more than sex obsessed perverts. So then all of us as a group and member of this board are doing nothing more than proving stereotypes about queers. This is not saying that this board is about porn only -I know many will start saying how that's not why they're here, blah, blah, blah- but nonetheless look up at the 'news' overtop this forum and learn all about the latest find from Illinois who in his short 8 month career has made 15 films. So that if for whatever reason right-wing homophobia media bumped into this forum, this forum could be used as a means to endorse further stereotypes and fears about fags as perverts. Look at some of the avatars people use in this site. Their dicks? And that doesn't speak volumes about stereotypes? Really. People who are homophobic can then turn around and use this board to justify gays as pederasts and they wouldn’t be so wrong would they? After all isn’t there thread after threads of how sexy twink straight guys are? People can use the words of this board to prove then that we gays are nothing more than a congregation of recruiters drooling over straight men like predators.

The point is, just as we can say that this site doesn't do things like that, the same can be said of CC because CC is just another person whom people will utilize because he has made himself public.

People ARE laughing AT him - and the rest of us, for that matter... He IS the stereotypical "fag." He's everything that so many boys and men struggling with their homosexuality are trying to get away from... What kid wants to come out to his parents and have them think, "Oh! You're like that sissy Chris Crocker...! Are you telling me that you want to wear makeup and wear sequined bras? (Gasp!)"

Chris Crocker is not doing any of us any favors... He's only making these videos for the attention, but he's going "over the top" with each one, trying to outdo himself... Hopefully one day, people will grow tired of his brand of humor and see it for what it is, a narcissistic drag queen looking for lots of attention...

His brand of humor is not opening doors for us... I perceive it as a disservice to us and a dishonor to people like Matthew Shephard, Paul Broussard, and Michael J. Sandy who have been victims of fatal gay bashings...

I wonder why, if he's considered to be so hilarious and outspoken, why no one's invited him to join us here on JUB?

Which reminds me of a comment by Mr. Humphreys on "Are You Being Served" when the store employees were interviewing applicants for a job. One of the applicants was obviously gay, a bit of a dandy, and while some of the other employees seemed to like him, Mr. Humphreys wadded up the man's application and threw it away. Mr. Lucas says, "Aren't you being a bit hasty?" Mr. Humphreys replied, 'What? You don't want people like THAT working here...!"
