On-Topic Chris Hayes: I'm 'Uncomfortable' Calling Fallen Military 'Heroes'

Not because of the political environment, no -- but probably because he was worried about his job.

He shouldn't have apologized, because he was right.

as usual you don't know Jack

you don't watch his show - you don't listen to him - you don't ........ know anything

yet you talk like you do

to what end?

[Text: Removed by Moderator] 90% of the time when someone apologizes for something they said on TV, it's not because they suddenly decided it was wrong, but because they realized that saying it was a mistake.

^ I watch his show - I know how he thinks

just because you seem to not think people are authentic doesn't mean they aren't

and your 90% pull out of your ass is ............. pulled out of your ass - a not very learned statement

and your 24/7 cynicism is dark and damp

just don't project it all the time

A guy is right. His boss is telling him he doesn't have to back down. But he backs down.

Conclusion: there's pressure being applied from somewhere.

You say he's "authentic"?

Well, then he's an authentic idiot, because he was right, and there was no need to apologize. Or maybe he's an authentic wuss, who won't stick to his guns even when his point is right on.

Authentic people are consistent and stick to their guns. He caved -- the only question is, "To what?"

^^ who's the "boss" ? do you even know?

had you even heard of chris hayes before this thread?

projecting again - negative of course

authentic people recognize mistakes and apologize for them

what part of that don't you get

The part where you don't apologize for having an opinion. Or do you think he does NOT think so anymore? Do you think inhis mind now it's ok to call every soldier a "hero"? That would be a quick epiphany.

I know it's cool to be outraged at people, but do you think before you respond to these posts?

What exactly did he apologize for?

Barely. I know he's a liberal commentator with a TV show. Beyond that is irrelevant -- I don't have to be a fan to follow the news. And in several news reports it was mentioned that his boss told him he didn't need to apologize.

When someone apologizes for something that wasn't a mistake, they're not authentic -- and it means something else is going on.

This guy was a hero:

Merely getting shot at, or being somewhere near where people are getting shot at, does not make one a hero.

I don't think he should have apologized. He meant what he said, even though he couched it in verbiage that would allow him to walk it back if someone challenged him. To apologize for saying what your really think is cowardly...unless you unintentionally hurt someone's feelings. And any feeling that he hurt, he meant to hurt.

Being that America is the most exceptional country in the world, where we have (at least for now) free speech, I will defend his right to say moronic things. If he was North Korean, and had said this about dead soldiers in North Korea, we all know what would have happened to him.

He is just an unseemly, cowardly, effete talking head. He is the epitome of all that is wrong with 24/7 television analysts. We all know someone like this.

Just because someone enlists in the military doesn't make them a patriotic hero..

True...But for a Man or Woman to enlist knowing they're putting their life on the line does take a level of Bravery and Greatness...We've been @ war for over a decade and it takes a special kind of person willing to enlist knowing they might lose their life after basic training....

So you're right everyone that enlists is not a Hero but everyone that enlists have tap into something within themselves that a lot of civilians could never, ever do....

I knew quite a number of ROTC people at university who did it as a calculated risk: they were gambling they'd never have to get shot at, in order to get the benefits.

Then there are the ones like me who wanted to enlist but couldn't be accepted.

The lines are not so clear.
