Friends and I have done the official Christmas Eve Movie since 1991 when we were all 15/16. This year will be our #20.

We always aim for the 24th of December, the early morning show at 9am at the local multiplex (with the exception of LotR: FotR in 2001, which we did the midnight screening of on opening night a week before Christmas), but in recent times it's been any day since the 20th as people get busier.

We got away from actual Christmas themed films pretty early on, since I got tired of watchng schmaltzy crap. Titles have since included such diverse titles as Avatar, Titanic, Hot Shots, The Nightmare before Christmas, Mrs Doubtfire and a few proper (usually crap) Christmas ones like Deck the Halls, Surviving Christmas and Elf among others.

Most risque was 2008's "How to lose friends and alienate people" which is loaded with swearing and even has a transsexual stripper who flashes cock in it; not my choice, that one, but I fully endorsed it.

This year, we are probably going to do a semi-local production (international production shot here based on a locally written novel) called Spud with John Cleese in it.

My family has a couple traditions. We put up our tree while watching the "Empty Stocking Fund", a telethon of kid choirs singing Christmas tunes to raise money for poor children in the community.

We listen to a LOT of Bing Crosby.

My sister and I bake sugar cookies. Mom sucks at baking as does my husband.

My grandma makes her signature gravy. Easily the best gravy this side of Ontario.

Oh Christmas Day and Boxing Day, our family always get together, and we have a huge lunch, swap gifts, and enjoy the day, through to the early hours of the night morning!

Always fun to be part of a big family! :D (UU)

Thinking about it, it's actually always been at the same house, as well. My grandma is always the host!! :-)

I usually work...God my life sucks.

My Christmas Tradition: I hate Christmas... That is why I campaigning to rename the merriments of late December End of civil year secular festival!

the new tradition is going to my youngest brother's house in houston.

tons of gifts for the grandkids, way too much food and a lot of laughs.

its great! :)

my school does Handel's Messiah. last year i watched it, this year i performed it.

Um. Getting drunk.

I know, not really a tradition.

But it IS a tradition to pass around 2 gallons of Southern Comfort!

Oh wow... 2 gallons?

For us it's late lunch at the parents with gift exchange after...

It seems a new tradition is going to be the annual Christmas concert performed by the local university concert orchestra, choirs, bell choir, and wind ensemble. (marching band sitting)

Oh wow... 2 gallons?

It sounds like a lot, but you have to consider:

Grandma
Her 8 children (My mom, aunts and uncles) and their spouses
Their 17 children (Me, my siblings and cousins) and their spouses

All together who are drinking out of it...

That's cool.

Our extended family never had any Christmas traditions or get togethers like that. It sounds like everyone has a great time.

Having moved away from the place I've lived for the last 25years, this year will be the start of new traditions. The one thing that won't change though is the tradition of having hotdogs for breakfast! It's the only time of the year that I have them!

I like the sounds of some your traditions gentlemen. Perhaps this year I too will have hot dogs for breakfast... later on have some southern comfort or a sip of sherry.

Don't feel bad, alley! (*8*) Misery loves company. I work in storefront retail. So Christmas is nothing more to me than a day to A) sleep in, and B) catch up on laundry.

This year, for a nice change of pace, because Christmas happens to fall on one of my regular nights to work at my convenience store, I'll be working both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I feel sorry for my boss/store manager: my co-workers were already trying to outdo each other and jockeying for position for who has to draw the short straw and work what time and day, that weekend.
