NOOOOO, You would think he would lay up on the bloody booze,But god I really like this guy..I hope treatment works for him and he fights this.

Well, I guess he's about to find out if there is an afterlife or not.

He's a big boy. He had to know that everything he was doing wasn't good for him.

But I'll miss him because he's one of the best damned writers alive today.

if just 10% of all Catholics would pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, then we could possibly see changes in his thinking/Repentance, and maybe a complete cure of Cancer- which ever is the Merciful God's Will concerning him. We can, through Prayer Change one person. I refuse to pray for Death of any sinners, as I too, am a sinner before God. I can only pray for God's will for Christopher.

Reallly?..*sighs I honestly don't like getting into confrontations like this but really?:##:

Absolutely. That is how 10% of Hungarian Catholics in the 1950's fought an unbloody battle with the Communist, and that is just by praying the Rosary for 7 or so years- The communist just left the Nation peacefully and never returned. History will not tell you the truth of the matter concerning the Hungarian Catholic Victory over Communism, but the Dioceses in Hungary will tell you. Google for some of this stuff.

I hope You are joking- the matter of whether the praying did the deed as as oppose to other factors. And for your claims of Bloodlessness, surely not! No revolution as ever been bloodless!- And for the other factors as for the Revolution as i call it-The death of Stalin could be seen as a factor for trigging a number of Uprisings!. You are right the internet doesn't lie, Nor does the European History class of which i took. I can dive into a full lecture!! Next time please don't resort foolish and ridiculous example of your faith at work!:=D:

"hedge your bets" lol.

It's amazing to me how many people still don't get why pascal's wager is illogical.

I pray for any soul that claims there is no God. It is fortunate that I am a Strong Roman Catholic, and Atheism has no hold on me, and never will. I have every right to pray for the dying Man.

What about those, whose god is different from yours?:help:

And I have every right to tell you to shut up when you get into some tangential argument about Hungarian salvation, which I did. I couldn't care less about your benevolent proclamations of prayer.

Correction it was Austria and he provided "evidence"-:rotflmao:

I would have liked it if the whole atheism vs. Christianity thing wasn't brought into this thread, but it was. Can we just get back to talking about Hitchens and leave the debating to the Religion forum?

That doesn't make sense and it is non sense ......](*,)

1/ you refuse to pray for hitchens
2/ you pray god to help htichens.

1 and 2 together is illogical.

I guess I'm just saying, I'd rather learn more about his documentaries or books as opposed to a Christian coming in and talking about his faith or atheists bashing him.

He's a brilliant man and a gifted author.

I have a feeling this disease is going to take him very quickly.

Fortunately, his light will shine on through this sea of idiocy we find ourselves in...

He is one of the best debaters around and he always won.
He contribute ALOT through the media and his books.

The world should thank him.

Actually, indeed you do have that right. Hitchens himself has said he welcomes you to pray, even though he is convinced that your prayer is both futile and unheard. You have his blessing - which frankly is perhaps unwise, as prayer tends to actually cause negative effects as reported in this study.

But, ever the gentleman, Hitchens takes this risk upon himself out of consideration for your feelings, much as we don't refuse an ill-chosen portrait as Christmas gift from an aunt, we just hang it in the spare bathroom and send a thank-you card anyway.

So pray on.

Oh, I do feel I should ask on Hitchens' behalf: What happens if only 7 or 8% of Catholics pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy?

The study confused me. First it said there were complications then it said there was a neutral effect, than it said it was negative again.

I agree the reporting could be clearer. I read it twice and it appears to me that not all of the people in the test groups knew they were being prayed for or not, and those people had equal outcomes. However some of the test group knew they were being prayed for, and that actually made things worse.

So pray for Hitchens if you like, but if you really care, lie about it if he asks.

A brilliant man, over the years I have enjoyed reading his books and listening to him debate.

This news truly saddens me.

This news doesn't surprise me.
During his debates, he keeps on coughing and looks very unhealthy.

What surprises me is no one picked that up afew years back and if this cancer can be prevented for an earlier detection or it doesn't matter if you can detect it early or not?.
