I thought it was just plain funny!

The US presidential election process is too long, we need a laugh now and then from both sides.

:D

Norris, a martial artist and actor, endorsed Huckabee and has recently played a larger role in the former Arkansas governor's presidential bid. Norris sent an e-mail last week to Huckabee supporters asking for campaign contributions.

That e-mail and the new television ad parody an Internet phenomenon of "facts" about Norris, who is fabled to have superhuman powers.

"When Chuck Norris does a push-up, he isn't lifting himself up. He's pushing the earth down," Huckabee says in the tongue-in-cheek TV ad, which he unveiled this week

From the Des Moines Register.

Huckabee did this ad because he could :)
He doesn't go on rants and cite tiered old facts, saying the same boring stuff everybody does.

The Ad gets peoples attention and they like it. Which is the marketing behind it.

Well it bets the hell outa Hilldys Cackle and ear piercing mud slaming.
And nobody is talking about Edwards hair either :)

Huckabee is a good example of how poorly the press is covering these elections. I read a piece in Salon the other day by an Arkansas reporter that suggested Huckabee had considerable baggage back home in Arkansas, but the mainstream press has covered him as if he were an earnest innocent right out of Mayberry RFD. I don't know much about him either, but I can't believe he served two terms as Governor of Arkansas and has no negatives.

Chris Matthews did an interview with him today that was nothing but a puff piece that allowed Huckabee to respond to the expected questions with the vaguest of generalities. Hardball?

The problem is that the press is covering the election as entertainment, as a sitcom/drama series and they have apparently cast the Huck as Andy Griffith with the other candidates taking the roles of Barney, the Town Eccentrics, the Noble Ner do Wells, the Rich Guy, the Big City Slicker, the Young Savage, and, of course The Town Whore. It's News in the age of Entertainment.

I Hate Females ?? pfftttt look @ your posts over the years....Please..............

& what is there to talk about Edwards,,Dang you are even mute on him.

that was funny!

those who don't know Chuck Norris - sorry - he is a part of our culture as an actor and maker of adventure films and for the teens and young folk who have the whole Chuck Norris thing going, this will crack them up and probably be very effective - hey if someone is not hip to the Chuck Norris thing, that's ok, I work with youth so I have to keep up with whatever they are keeping up with -- I was actually surprised that Church Norris stuff was still big, I though it died out 20 years ago but it is bigger than ever - the old geezers and others out of touch won't get it but a lot of kids and fans of adventure moves will - and it is funny, this commercial

some more Chuck Norris'isms

# Chuck Norris’ hand is the only hand that can beat a Royal Flush.

# Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water AND make it drink.

# Chuck Norris doesn’t wear a watch, HE decides what time it is.

# Chuck Norris gave Mona Lisa that smile.

# Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door.

# Chuck Norris does not get frostbite. Chuck Norris bites frost

# Remember the Soviet Union? They decided to quit after watching a DeltaForce marathon on Satellite TV.

Chuck Norris . . . the smaller, but broader edition of John Wayne.

He's an SDF who makes films and TV shows about hurting people he disagrees with, much like John Wayne used to do. He's playing tough guy with camera angles and jump cuts, and the simple minded think he's for real. I guess when Huckabee doesn't make the grade at the convention, he's gonna have to lay waste to all the yahoos there that don't see things the way he wants them to be seen. WHOP! BAM! CRASH! The American way of settling any differences. Tho there athholes!

I don't own a television, I never developed an interest in what it offered, and "Chuck Norris" and this silly enterprise of his simply reconfirms my belief: I have missed nothing. So whether he was popular in the 1907 or 2007, I have no information to know who he is, what he does, and what the fuck his Stalinist, self hero-worshipping nuttiness is all about. And that's okay, because his paeans to himself are so unappealing, unfunny and boorish that no matter who said them, no matter the year, they would remain boorish.

Oh, you don't own a tv - aren't you so much better than the rest of us, you are sol cool, and the rest of us so declasse

yest you spend so much time discussing televised debates and tv commercials ... you must have great powers! And how insightful for you to comment on a cluture on which you know nothing but your own superiority to it!

Here is a quickie bio:
Chuck Norris is an Executive Producer of "Walker, Texas Ranger" (1993) as well as the star. Norris is familiar to fans worldwide as the star of action films such as The Hitman (1991), The Delta Force (1986) and Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection (1990). He also starred in Missing in Action (1984) and its sequels, Firewalker (1986) and Sidekicks (1992). Norris was born Carlos Ray in Ryan, OK. The eldest of three children, he helped his mother raise his two younger brothers in Torrance, CA, where his family moved when he was 12. Norris joined the Air Force after graduating from high school. During a stint in Korea, he began to study the Asian martial art of Tang Soo Do. After returning home, he worked for Northrop Aviation and moonlighted as a karate instructor. Two years later he was teaching full-time and running a number of martial-arts schools. His students included Steve McQueen, Priscilla Presley and the Osmonds. In 1968, he became the Professional World Middleweight Karate Champion, holding the title undefeated until he retired in 1974. He is a black belt in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwan Do, both Korean fighting arts, and knows all forms of the martial arts. In 1969, he earned the Triple Crown for the highest number of tournament wins, and was named Fighter of the Year by "Black Belt" magazine. By the time he was 34, Norris had established 32 karate schools and had been a champion for six years. In 1996, he became the first Westerner to be awarded an eighth-degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do. Norris, who was urged to get into acting by his friend Steve McQueen, skillfully incorporates his martial-arts knowledge into his series and feature film projects, stressing action and technique over violence. He is the author of the books "The Secret of Inner Strength" and "The Secret Power Within - Zen Solutions to Real Problems". He works for many charities, including the Funds for Kids, Veterans Administration National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans, the United Way, Make-a-Wish Foundation and KickStart, a nonprofit organization he created to help battle drugs and violence in schools. He also starred in the television movie Bound by Honor (1993), broadcast on CBS. He lives on a ranch when not filming. His birthday is March 10.

Chuck Norris's fight career lasted from 1964-1974. Norris started off by losing his first three tournaments but, by 1966, he was almost unbeatable. Among the numerous titles he won were The National Karate Championships (1966), All-Star Championships (1966), World Middleweight Karate Championship (1967), All-American Karate Championship (1967), Internationals (1968), World Professional Middleweight Karate Championship (defeating Louis Delgado on 24 November 1968), All-American Championship (1968), National Tournament of Champions (1968), American Tang Soo Championship, and the North American Karate Championship. Norris compiled a fight record of 65-5 with wins over champions Joe Lewis, Skipper Mullins, Arnold Urquidez, Ronald L. Marchini, Victor Moore, Louis Delgado, and Steve Sanders. Of the five men to beat Norris, three were Allen Steen, Joe Lewis, and Norris's last career defeat to Louis Delgado in 1968. Norris retired as undefeated Professional Full-Contact Middleweight Champion in 1974.

Despite their vast political differences, he is friends with actress and comedienne Whoopi Goldberg. He was so impressed with a performance of hers that he tried, unsuccessfully, to get her a role in his film Invasion U.S.A. (1985).

Reader's Digest once noted a story of how Norris, true to his characters, prefers to find a non-violent way to solve a situation. Norris was in a bar once when a customer walked in and said to him, "You're in my seat. Move." Norris complied, and as the customer sat down, he recognized Norris. He then said, "Chuck, you could've kicked my butt if you wanted to. Instead of moving, why didn't you just attack me?" Norris' response: "What would that have accomplished?" Norris later said the experience resulted in him getting a new admirer and a new friend.

Is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the Machado Brothers.

As a child, his idol and favorite actor was John Wayne. Indeed, their on screen personas bear much in common. Both achieved their highest level of fame playing no nonsense good guys who were incorruptible and did whatever it took to make sure that justice was served and that the bad guys got what they deserved.

He is a staunch supporter of the Republican Party.

Is an NRA member.

Is a close friend of legendary writer and director John Milius.

Enjoys playing golf and participates in many celebrity golfing events.

A website known as "Chuck Norris Facts" has been created as a parody of his career. Chuck is not offended by the website, in fact, has said he feels honored to have a website named after him and says he laughs when he reads the facts.

It is my own principle that anyone who wishes to comment on the natioanl scene must be in touch with the culture. Chuck Norris is a conservative Republican who does his own very non-John Wayne thing - he is also known for a great sense of humor -

the commercials he is doing for Huckabee will get a great deal of attention from a certain segment of the community, especially youth, and it says something about his sense of humor and Huckabee's, who is positioning himself as a real guy, not a politician who is humorless like Guliani or Romney.

I've never watched one of his film but I am very aware of who he is because I don't place myself above and against the culture in which I live. One can be superior, which defines boorish, as to never watch tv and disdain the culture but that undercuts the supposed understanding that that same superior one brings to commenting on events of the day donchyaknow.

I am not sure why certain numbers are being replaced by smilis but our readers should be abl to figure that out

The smiley known as “Cool” is represented by the characters “8” and “)” – so anywhere these characters appear together in your posted text will be displayed as 8).

The way I resolve this issue is to place an extra space between them~ e.g. “8 )

Internationals (1968) then displays as Internationals (1968 )

Chuck is a good actor who has appeared in many movies

mostly action hero - cartoon character

part jack bauer - part arnold schwarzenegger, etc.

retrieving MIAs

fighting terrorists

that kinda stuff

very entertaining IMO

and Huckabee is a good dude who is gaining traction - in Iowa and other places

democracy at work

Alfie, you do realize that you are arguing with people that enjoy Chuck Norris, right?

:rotflmao:

That's fuckin' hysterical!!!

have u seen any?

The Missing In Action (he's Jim Braddock) movies are excellent - one man wrecking crew - rescuing MIAs from captivity - good stuff

The Delta Force movies he takes on terrorists - action packed

Code of Silence was good too - Chicago cop I think who fought police corruption and drug dealers

all fun to watch

have u seen any of them

no I don't think he's gay or high brow for that matter

u don't like action movies?

love em

Indeed. He's at the same rank as that other "action hero" Jean-Claude Van Dam -- watchable only if you're sick in bed under the influence of medication and nothing else is on TV.

Love a good action movie now and again. . . but the Norris ones I've seen are "B" grade productions with "B" grade acting. Norris only plays one character. . . himself.

Gimme Clint, or Bruce, or Jean Claude, or Harrison, or. . . or. . .

But, don't make me sit through another Chuck monstrosity!

Alfie, you do realize that you are arguing with people that enjoy Chuck Norris, right?

:D

that's pretty funny!

actually I don't enjoy Chuck Norris at all - what other people have said about him in thsi thread works for me -

but yet there is no reason not to know who he is and this summer Chuck Norris jokes were all the rage in the high school set out here and its just another generation's version of 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon or dead baby jokes or Yo Mama jokes or whatever

and I know a damn clever ad and that Huckabee/Norris ad is clever - it plays right to the base with a sense of humor and that will distinguish Huckabee from the rest of the republicans real fast, that Huckabee is a real guy who can laugh about himself, or anything, with an endorsement by someone who carries some weight in the circles that he needs to get votes from

and the phrase different strokes for different folks means I don't other want people mocking me for my sexual orientation so I won't mock other people for their cultural orientation - we don't with integrity get to act like we are some effete elites who can mock and laugh others for the things that they enjoy when some of what we enjoy is mighty strange its own self

and far be it for me to agree with chance but this ad does say Huckabee is moving on up... and that is worth paying attention to

Iman, your post #6 is the best of the bunch.

Jack is right; it is an outstanding ad. Ads at this point in a campaign are about a few basic things: name recognition, a comfortable image, appearing as a real person. Obviously here it's Huckabee appearing as a real person -- Norris isn't a person, he's a force of nature.
