Ciara: New song & video is brilliant!

I love how the song is super slow, but her dance moves match perfectly with the song. She should approached "And I" with the same passion. Although Ciara is less a singer than an entertainer, she's not afraid to try new things. In that way, she reminds me of Aaliyah but other than that, Ciara has her own energy. She seems focused and determined. She's like the Maria Sharapova of R&B. Even though Beyonce is the equivalent of Sharapova as far money and success goes, Ciara has the raw determination.

Also, look at how she levitates with the microphone. lol I don't think it's real though.
Bottom-line: Ciara did a brilliant job. Bravo!

Maybe she's a little more feminine, but her in that sweat suit and hoodie is str8 up tomboy. haha She works it well. I like the fact that she can dress in a hoodie and some boots and manage to sing a sexy song in a girlish voice.

The first thing I thoguhtof was Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" when I saw the dancing. Nothing in this video is original. The scene with the microphone comes from Usher's "You Got it Bad." The overall feel of the scenes when she's in the chair comes from his "Confessions" video. She fails to impress me. I don't understand the hype over Ciara.

I heard the song on the radio and it was painful. I could hear Ciara straining to find a note and keep it. It was so embarassing. Some people just should stick tp uptempo songs and dancing because ballads just wont cut it.

Amerie CANNOT sing, but she can harmonize. She has a hell-of-a-producer in Rich Harrison and has a decent voice unlike Ciara, but singing, UH NO. . I have the whole Touch album also, and snapping your neck, Aaliyah wasn't the greatest vocalist of all time, but she was a singer.

Preach! People are entitled to their opinions, but most of the people I know who say Amerie can't sing just aren't used to her style of singing. Amerie has a cadence to her vocals and an urgent rasp in her voice that reminds me of Michael Jackson. Crazy, huh? And just peep her harmonies, brilliance! The girl truly does not need any background singers on her own songs, because Amerie can harmonize like crazy to the point that she sounds like several different people singing at once. So that's my defense of Amerie.

And as for Aaliyah not being a great singer, I agree. She wasn't. She had a great mellow tone to her vocals when it comes down to performing, she had sometimes had problems. For anyone who's seen some of Aaliyah's performances, you'll notice that she had a habit of singing really deep to the point of tonal confusion. I love Aaliyah, but honestly Amerie is more comfortable singing live than Aaliyah ever was. That's just my opinion, though. I don't know, Amerie seems to have a more flexible voice. In many ways, Ciara is very much like Aaliyah because Ciara isn't a complete natural when it comes to vocals, just like Aaliyah wasn't. When I say that, I mean that when Aaliyah sang, her vocals were very cool and calculated and not very fluid.

Her vocals are pitiful. But she looks good.

Ciara's vocals on "Promise" are some of the best I've heard from her, which obviously isn't saying much. Remember her "And I" video? I was laughing when she was bending down acting as if she was belting, when in reality her vocal intensity hadn't changed at all. It was the same monotone. LOL But I respect what Ciara does. She's a dancer who makes hot songs that are catchy, and she can carry a tune. Plus, Ciara is a great songwriter, but just like Ashanti is a good songwriter, Ciara doesn't necessarily have to sing the songs.
