Cicadas are singing this morning

08h30 and they have just started "singing". I believe it is something to do with the temperature.

It was so calm and peacefull this morning whilst I sipped my first cup of coffee on the terrace.

^ Yes, they are most active during high temperatures.

But isn't there a minimum and a maximum where they start and stop?

Also why do they never stop? The "singing" is to attract a female isn't it? Surely at some moment they must tire of making their noise? But no, they go on incessantly all day long.

There is a minimum and maximum, but it varies with region and species. And the singing is, in fact, to attract a mate, but not all of them find one, so they keep on trying. It's the only reason they're there in the first place. Same with crickets. Ever had one in your home? They never seem to get tired and stop, either, and they're very good at hiding.
