I know this is little comfort, but I don't really like my scar--and I positively loathed it when I was a teenager. I avoided the showers after PE, and I think one reason was I didn't want other boys to see the scar.

One time, I read of some makeup recommended for covering scars in a newspaper advice column. I actually carefully noted the information down in case something changed and I couldn't avoid the group showers any longer. (I wonder how I'd have dealt with it? Nip into the locker room toilet stall each day before stripping for the shower and quickly apply the makeup?)
