A national curriculum would probably help.
Some states are successful banning and removing the strangest things from theirs.

There's no rational reason for a single school district to control its own curriculum, they'd hardly have access to the skills and experience of those working at a national level.

That doesn't really track. For the most part those on a national level got the position through political means. The ones lower down at the local level get their positions based on merit...... for the most part.
