Hi Jubbers!
Can you help me out here?
I am thinking of giving a gift or set of gifts of music albums to a friend who likes classic rock music.
Can you suggest what are the best classic rock albums between 1975 - 1985.
All I can think of are albums from Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, Eric Clapton, etc......
Thank you. Your suggestions are appreciated.(!)

Fuck all that bullshit... Tom Petty Greatest Hits. Be prepared to get loved on...

I enjoyed Moody Blues Days of Future Passed, absolutely.

In a similar vein, Rick Wakeman did some fantastic Rock/Orchestral concerts with a theme. Here's a link to YouTube site where a super Fan has made videos of Journey to the Center of the Earth, King Arthur, and now, 1984.

Others: Chicago, Jefferson AIRPLANE (before they became "Starship" - Go Ask Alice . . .

To have music is one thing but to have and listen to is another: I listen to

Elton John- Greatest Hits I and II
Fleetwood Mac- Greatest Hits
Dire Straits- Brothers In Arms
Cars- Greatest Hits
America- Greatest Hits
Eagles- Greatest Hits
Doobie Brothers- Greatest Hits
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band- Greatest Hits
Gerry Raferty- City To City
Kim Carnes- Mistaken Identity
Styx

Thanks guys for all the input.
I'm currently choosing from all your suggestions. ..|

Kiss, Boston, Black Sabbath, Queen, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, Eric Clapton, AC/DC, April Wine, Bob Segar, ZZ Top, .....the list goes on.

There was a lot of great music made back in the late mid to late 70s and some in the early 80s.

Jim Morrison was dead by '75 so The Doors shouldn't be feaured.

I second Tom Petty, particularly Damn The Torpedoes, and The Clash's London Calling,

Dylan's Blood On The Tracks,

The first two Pretenders records,

Springsteen's Born To Run and

Bowie's Heroes

are some safe winners.

Some good ones:

1975 - Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen)
1976 - Hotel California (Eagles)
1977 - Bat out of Hell (Meat Loaf)
1980 - Back in Black (AC/DC)

I am a bit surprised nobody has mentioned Discovery by E.L.O., Some Girls by the Rolling Stones or News of the World by Queen.

Have to agree about the Moody Blues "Days Of Future Past". I'd also highly recommend Elton John's "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy".

Band on the Run - Paul McCartney
Young Americans - David Bowie
Rumors - Fleetwood Mac
1999 - Prince
Hotel California - Eagles
A Wizard, A True Star - Todd Rundgren
Into the Gap - Thompson Twins
Fly Like an Eagle - Steve Miller Band
Frampton Comes Alive - Peter Frampton

lou reed, transformer, berlin etc

both those albums are pre-'75. i can't believe everyone isn't a pedantic music nerd like me!

lou did realease such fine albums as "street hassle" and "metal machine music" in this period though. however they are not to everyone's taste (to put it euphemistically).
