Hey guys

Recently my partner and I moved into a new house. Now that we have a new home, we now have a new master bathroom with a stand up shower and a tub. When we lived in our apartment all we had was a tub with a shower head and a shower curtain.

Before when we lived in our apartment, I would always clean myself (ie douche) in the shower and just let it all go down the drain. As embarrassing as it is to say this... of course whenever I clean myself out there is some solid matter. Therefore, I have to break it up so it will be small enough to go down the drain. !oops! The reason why I do it is because it's convenient to douche and fully clean myself in the shower.

I've never used a stand up shower and to be quite honest, Im not very fond of them. More and more everyday I am getting use it though. I've been doing what I did in the other apartment, in our new home and its bothering me because Im fully not use to the standup shower.

My question to you guys (and all you plumbers out there ..|)is what Im doing, in any way harmful, to the drain or the shower in general? To be honest, I would like to clean the drain as well. Would I have to re-caulk it if I do?

Do you guys have the same problem or am I the only one ;)
Oh the woes of being a bottom lol

If you've ever seen a house be built, you would know that the drainage tubes in the house can get quite small. I would avoid putting any solid matter down there. It's completely not meant for it. One of these days your partner is going to be showering and a shit storm will come bubbling up - how's that gonna be for your relationship?

I'm sure you've thought about using the toilet first. That would be my suggestion. If there is any solid matter when you do clean ... don't force it thru the drain. Clean it up when you finish your shower.
I'm in agreement that doing it in the shower is most convienent.
You'll get used to the stand up shower eventually.

Thank you for all your comments guys, I guess I will just try to avoid using the shower as a toilet.

tx_doc I appreciate your comment but I would never want that for that my partner. I was simply asking and seeing if anybody had the same problem. Your sarcasm is unnecessary and shall I remind you that this is a no flame zone.

Toilets and baths/showers/sinks are on separate plumbing lines for a reason. If your shower line were to get stopped up, you run the risk of feces backing up into your sinks where they can contaminate your eating utensils and toiletries.

As the others have suggested, use the toilet.

It just sound lazy to me to do that when a toilet is right there. Put a towel on the floor and get out of the shower. Wait till the drain has to be snaked out. It's gonna be corn for days.

I always insert the shower hose, and then just use the toilet. I repeat it as many times as I need to.

If you don't have a toilet near your shower, try using a bucket.

I doubt pressing feces down the drain is that harmful (unlike say the tea-leaves with which I clogged up the washbowl in my Haarlem bedsit), but it's better to use the toilet.
