No, I didn't top him though I'm pretty sure I could have with the right financial incentive. I just wasn't into offering him the right amount and, besides, he clearly wouldn't have enjoyed it physically or psychologically. I've never been into the rapey aspects of forced sex even if the only force is money. He did top me briefly but had a difficult time staying hard enough to last very long. My impression of Cliff was that of an relatively immature young man who among other personal issues had a marijuana addiction. He apparently discovered at a relatively early age (17 or 18 I think) the fact that gay men would pay to have sex with him, a fact that is not uncommon among young poor teenagers in need of fast money. These male prostitutes exist in large numbers in any major city. And they are different from the self identified gay prostitutes. Though some may be in denial about their sexuality, anyone who has experienced sex with these prostitutes knows the difference.

As for his being “painfully straight” by that I mean that for some young straight identified men having gay sex it is simply difficult to do. They are uncomfortable and would never do it for any other reason than that they need the money. For other straight identified men they can tolerate and even enjoy aspects of gay sex in the moment for their own reasons (“a mouth is just a mouth”, the pleasure of sexually dominating another individual even a guy, etc.) though the primary reason for it is still the lure of money. Cliff falls into the former category without a doubt though he does enjoy a good blowjob.

During the ’90s in San Francisco when the AIDS hysteria was at its worst, I began to rely more on known straight male prostitutes, some of whom were directly involved in the porn industry to one degree or another. I had the disposable income at the time so my sex life for several years consisted of hiring straight identified male prostitutes as a way of avoiding AIDS. The fact that prostitution is illegal makes their behavior criminal by definition but from my experience it rarely is their only criminal offense. Almost to a man these guys had drug/alcohol problems, difficulty holding down a job, low to no job skills, etc. ad nauseam. It is pattern that is rather unfortunately completely predictable. The advent of the Corbin Fisher and the Sean Cody clean cut mostly straight guys having gay sex (admittedly some of it was illusory but nonetheless it was largely true) was mind blowing to me. I knew that straight guys can and do have gay sex for money but these guys were completely out of my own experience. But that is another whole story and at some point someone needs to put out for discussion what that all means without going into that ridiculous pseudo intellectual nonsense of “self-loathing homophobia”. Thank you Seahawk; your assessment is straight on as I have met a few as you described like Cliff who have had bad childhoods and seem to enjoy the attention of others due to lack of self esteem.
