i thought they had one of the top 5 pitching rotations before, but now, anything short of the world series is a bust in my eyes (barring major injuries). any other Phillies Phan out there? (!)

A Met fan here trying to preserve with this news whatever is left of my dignity:(

Great, great move for the Phillies and their fans though...expectations will be sky high but it will be very interesting seeing how far the fantastic four (Roy Halladay,Cliff Lee,Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels)will get the Phillies...even better than San Francisco starting rotation that led the way for the Giants the WS championship in 2010.Could be one of the best foursomes ever.As much as I loathe the club and many of their fans, they keep putting themselves in a position to retake the WS crown and I respect them immensely.

IMO, as a Yankee fan, I'm glad we didn't get him. That contract was insane and IMO, he is NOT the star pitcher's made out to be.
He was 4-6 with a 3.98 ERA before the post season. And he may have won in the ALDS and ALCS but when it came to the World Series, he got his butt kicked not once but twice, the second due to his own arrogance. The 09 World Series he was driven out of the second game as well.
I'm not bitter. I realize that next year probably won't be ours. In a way, I hope this takes us back to what helped our dynasty run in the 90's. Putting together a team that may not have big names on it, but can do the things that are needed to be done.

Spoken like a true Yankee fan ;) ..|
So I guess it not was not about the money, Lee was offered like $150M and 7 years to sign with the Yankees, and around $135-140M to stay in Texas. But he took less to go back to Philadelphia, maybe he never really wanted to leave in the first place.

In yours, I'm sure that at least half of the Phillies fan base would think anything less than actually winning the WS is a bust. ..|

A little disappointed that Lee isn't going to one of our rivals, the Yankees. I'd have love for my team to kick him around again next season. :D

All signs are pointing toward a Phillies/Red Sox World Series (i.e. a contest between Mets and Yankees fans over whose life sucks more).

The Yanks are my team, but I have the sudden inspiration to follow the Giants closely throughout the season and hope for the best. They basically already beat the 2011 Phillies rotation in 2010.
A World Series between our other rival and the team that beat us in '08 WS? ](*,)

I'd love a Giants-Red Sox World Series though. :-) I'll cheer for any team that beats the Yankees and Red Sox.

Actually, with the way it stands now, he is getting more per a year from Philly in AAV than he was going to get from either New York or Texas.
Yes, Philly does indeed have a solid rotation...but they don't play games on paper. If they did, several of the teams who've won the World Series in the last ten years wouldn't have won.

P.S. A lot of people have been crowing about how Mrs. Lee being spit on by a few drunken fans turned her against New York. All I can say is she better hope her hubby can bring home a World Series Ring next year. Otherwise she'll learn very quickly how much "class" certain Philly fans have.

i thought this too but then i remembered who else is in that rotation. if he struggles there are 3 other top pitchers for him to hide behind. worst come to worst you drop him to the 4 spot until he figures things out. he's too good of a pitcer to stay in a slump for too long, not to mention playing in the NL east with the mets, and the nats and florida, not exactly the AL east. If he can keep the Mets in check fans will love him lol

Keeping the Mets in check isn't that hard to do. I know the Yankees have an uphill climb, but I also know from the 90's that the best pitching staff IMO (the Braves) only won ONE World Series out of five they were in. Pitching is key... but the offense has to do its part as well.

^^i do agree that the offense must perform better than they did last season and everything imo depends on utley rollins and howard being able to stay healthy this season. rollins and utley missed major time and it showed in the playoffs against the giants. hopefully this season no mayjor injuries to key players will keep the offense clicking

*projectile vomit*

I think I'll take up following soccer next year.

Like I said before,if Kristen Lee thinks her husband will still be lauded if he blows a game in the World Series like he did this year, she'll be in for a rude surprise.
