Clinton touts health care reform
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton vows she'll create a universal health care system if she's elected president.

During an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" from Iowa, Clinton said she "learned a lot" during the failed health-care effort of her husband's presidency.

Clinton says "there's no doubt" there will be universal health-care when she's president.

Asked how she could improve on her failed effort to reform health-care back in the 1990s, Clinton said pressure for change has built in the last decade, and that would make it easier to tackle the issue.

Clinton says "it's hard to ignore the fact" that nearly 47 million people don't have health insurance, and that even people who do have insurance find it difficult to get care.

The reason she hasn't "set out a plan and said here's exactly what I will do," Clinton said, is that she wants to hear from voters what kind of plan they would favor.

"I want the ideas that people have," said Clinton. She said any health care plan must deal with the reality that there's a unique climate in the country.

"We are bigger and more diverse and people like their choice," said Clinton.

She did the same thing with NY issues the first time she ran for the Senate. And it worked.

But she better have some concrete ideas before autumn or she's going to get knocked upside the head with this.

I think we'll be hearing more about this from her and the other candidates.
From what I read it's Americans biggest concern after the War in Iraq.

Great news! Now we can all go to shitty government facilities and get substandard health care, just like the veterans! No thanks, I'll pass.

I'm glad she is campaigning on a positive constructive issue, instead of bashing gays, and gay marriage. The past few elections were more about who they could push down, to get the christian right wriled up. Universal Health Care is something we all could use. I have health insurance, and my healthcare is still so expensive even with insurance, I opt to just tough out an illness rather than go to the doctor.

right

as if the american medical establishment will dissapear because we all have health care

i will remind you that massachusetts has universal health care and we still house harvard medical, some of the best hospitals in the nation, as well as a host of pharmaceutical companies

it is posible to take care of everyone and still have quality health care

its just partisan rhetoric to say otherwise

Maybe you might try waiting for your states health care to take effect in July, before you declare it to be a resounding success. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/04/AR2007030400227.html?nav=rss_health

Now I think it, as a matter of principal, to be a good thing to require folks to have their own health care. This way, I don't have to pay for your illness. Same as we do for car insurance.

But Mrs. Bill Clinton's plan, that she hatched in secret, controlled all aspects of the health care industry including what doctors got to study in medical school. That's Socialism, pure and simple.

The government can't seem to deliver water to hurricane victims without any major difficulties. I don't see any evidence that they could possibly allocate health care without fucking that up at least as badly. Maybe you have some secret insight that you would care to share with the group.

Personally, I expect this to take the form that Massachusetts and California have gone about this issue. I expect any candidate who wants to get this plan through Congress will have to let it be dealt with like automotive insurance. To exist, you must purchase insurance, and you can be penalised for not having insurance. That lets the market drive the price down, and keeps medical care high, or so it is supposed to work.

I am for heavy government subsidation for healthcare but I do not see a universal health care system on a national scale as feasible.

Don't worry Jack! She could not manage it the first time, and this panacea of liberal ideology is in conflict with all of the trial lawyers! It will never happen. We do not need more beaurocracies!

Remember that this will not be complete government control, where all people are mandated to sign up for "government-run" health care. Citizens can choose whether or not to opt-in. If you are happy with your current plan from your HMO/PPO, then you can keep it.

actually we ahve until then to comply

that is different

the new plan is being well recieved and sick people are getting healthcare

remember that?

doing the right thing?

it used to be a hallmark of what americans did before greed took the place of values

Or we could have better healthcare for both veterans and the rest of us.

Accepting substandard results is as much the fault of the People as it is our representatives and the government workers who deliver it.

You think you're not paying for other people's accidents when you pay your car insurance premium, or other people's property damage when you pay homeowner's, or other people's healthcare when you pay healthcare insurance? Please! :rotflmao:

You're not only paying for all that, you're also contributing your share of huge insurance industry profits.

But Mrs. Bill Clinton's plan, that she hatched in secret, controlled all aspects of the health care industry including what doctors got to study in medical school. That's Socialism, pure and simple.

She hasn't offered that plan this time. Why pretend she is?

That Bush & Co failed miserably with Katrina is not an indication that all of government is incompetent. The government can do a great job when pressed. Our federal highway system, for instance, is well planned, well built and well maintained. Unless you believe Americans are inherently incompetent, there's no reason a universal healthcare system can't work efficiently.

We do not need more beaurocracies!

From a supporter of Bush & Co and the Republican controlled Congress that expanded government dramatically, that's just more hypocrisy.

Whether or not this proposal will benefit all remains to be seen.
Some Govt systems have been badly conceived and managed.
Hillary and the other candidates should study this concept in Canada, the UK and Scandinavia and pick and choose whichever elements works best.
I admit I'm unabashedly partisan. I fear any Republican will develop a system that favors the AMA and the big Drug companies (the rich get richer).

the united states will never recreate the socialized medical system of the UK

it will take the route of insurance regulation and requirement.

I'm waiting for your pals to do away with all the "pork" they moaned about so mightily. Millions for peanut storage and spinach subsidies hidden in a bill to fund the troops is not a step in that direction. Feel free to tell us all who they are related, if you care to!
