Cloud Back Up Services

With my Windows computer I have recently had a problem that has convinced me I should have a cloud back up of my hard drives.

Looking over reviews I am considering IDrive and Carbonite. Prices are pretty similar - IDrive seems to have more features but Carbonite seems to win as the easiest system.

Just wondering if any one here has used either system and has any thoughts or suggestions?

I have an external USB drive made by Seagate. I copy my Thunderbird and Firefox profiles folders over once in a while. Along with My Documents and well, basically, all of the "stuff I made". I have a recovery disc so I can re-install Windows.

Another way: I have Western Digital drives. They have a version of Acronis (free) that will clone your entire hard drive to another drive.... as long as one of the drives is a Western Digital. Pretty slick.

How old and what is your PC?
 
I also have a local back up - the problem is I was not as "diligent" as I should have been about doing regular backups. I just kept thinking "tomorrow" not wanting to take the time to hook up the external drive, etc.

And then on my 6 month old solid state drive my computer suddenly said "WARNING HARD DRIVE FAILURE IMMINENT. BACK UP NOW" and then my D drive disappeared from my system. The drive died that fast.

I do have my out of date back up to restore from - but I will have lost some work and in some cases will not know what I lost until I go looking for it.

For less that $100 a year I can get an online back up to supplement my local back up and it will be up to date each day. Sure would have saved me a lot of time and trouble.

I was thinking that iDrive was owned by Carbonite. But a quick research did not bring up any proof. I've been using iDrive for a few years. I had the free version for a couple of years before I had the lower tier paid version due to like a 75 or 90% off sale. At the end of the year promotion, I did not renew and their system did not allow me to revert to the free version. They said I would have to sign up with a new account with a different username (which I did do). Less than a year ago they discontinued the free version but had a cheap (something like $3 for a year) for 100 Gb of storage. I don't have the fastest internet plan so I just backup my personal files (documents, photos, program created files,etc) using iDrive. Then weekly I make my own full backup onto an external USB drive.
 
Google cloud , etc etc ... also back up to media eg : lots of HDDs , CD's pen drives etc .. cant have too many backups
