Cloverfield...why?

Considering that there is never been a giant monster to attack New York city in real life, who are we to assume how the government would react in such a situation? Seems plausible to me that they would be more focused on this oddity and protecting the city rather than focused on shunning away civilians video taping it as it happens.

Thousands of people videotaped the events on 9/11. Did the government prevent them? No. They were focusing on stopping more potential attacks that day.

Well the full force of the US military wasn't in lower Manhattan when people were filming... in this film they are. Not only that but they specifically allow the protagonists to wander about the city and find Beth and that just doesn't jive with common sense. Once they were with the government the officials would've NEVER let them just wander back out there.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable criticism though my personal issue was more with the lack of legitimate story or characterization. It's a poor attempt at a modern Americanized Godzilla that, like all Abrams work, get overhyped and thrives far more on shock value than actual quality.

You even think that about his television work with Lost? That would be crazy talk!

Lost is the most over-hyped, poorly crafted, excuse for drama I've ever seen in my life. It is the piniacle of what is wrong with modern television and it's super dramas, which are driven by pure tension rather than character or theme. It rides it's reputation of being "well crafted" while compelling itself forward on nothing more than shock value. Mark my words when that series ends and the secret is revealed people across this nation will just say... well that was a disappointing waste of years of my life.

Lost actually has very well crafted character development. So this tells me you haven't really been watching the show. Read any review of the show and you will see evidence of this. If on the otherhand you tell me you have watched every episode, then that only tells me you are a closet fan of the show. And even if the ending will disappoint, I still enjoyed the ride along the way. Kind of like life.

"Pinnacle of what's wrong"? Lol. Such drama.

I watched the show for three seasons and then it and I parted ways because from what I had both read and saw made it clear that this just wasn't what people pretend it is. The writers choose to dwindle a wonderful cast of diverse and riveting characters who were struggle to reconcile their past with teh present to nothing more than a soap opera on an island. Their claims of having this grand well crafter plan but it clearly is not. The death of Charlie being a prime example. The writers clearly stated that they had no intention of killing Charlie when they began with Desmond has to save Charlie storyline but they realized they painted themselves into a corner... now that just doesn't make sense in a show that is suppose to have this grand karmic undertone with a huge plan at work... it's bull. The whole thing is bunk. Had it not become wildly popular I'm sure it would've been amazing but it fell into the trap of popularity and the writers became overburdened, force to stretch out a vision, and filled it with crap. And that crap can not stand in a story with such a delicate plot as LOST. It just can't. There's no room for crap. They throw so many shocks at you so you'll eventually become so overwhelmed you realize more than half of them haven't been answer or where answered poorly in anti-climatic ways. The inconsistency in the ability of the others, the poor explanation as to why the others kidnapped Walt, the whole thing is GARBAGE that relies on the guilibilty and misplaced trust of an audience.

Oh I like Cloverfield very much. Been following their viral campaign since their trailer out before Transformer. I think the reason the second week the grossing drop because people who watch it and experience motion sickness has warned others to stay away.

Luckily I did not have the sickness and the movie is good, a bit too short tough. Then I bought the DVD version and its even better! I can see more details, and feel more realistic.

I know we shouldn't think logically on movies but things like climbing up to the 60+ floor and rescue girlfriend, then go down 60+ floor, then run, doesn't make sense. His girlfriend still can run very fast carrying a deep wound.

But anyway I still like Cloverfield.

I keep hearing/reading people saying that this film was all about marketing, and how they schnookered people into seeing a substandard film. But I have yet to hear one person say "Once bitten, twice shy." Every single person I personaly have heard this from...I've heard get excited about, oh, 80% of films that they've seen previews or commercials for. What's this mean, exactly? That they fell for it...but liked falling for it? Or that they "haven't learned their lesson"? Or just have a lot of faith that that was the one that didn't do it right?

I mean, have you seen the trailer for Beverly Hills Chihuahua? I guess the trailer is mildly cute if you like that sort of thing. But doesn't anyone see the massive warning signs? Specifically, they TELL you the plot, while giving you a dog-(and-no-pony) show instead of clips from the film? Doesn't this imply that there's really nothing to show?

...now swing by HT, find the thread that shows the trailer...and see how many people posted to say they wanted to see it.

Well some of the largest creatures on the face of the earth are found at it's bottom... that being said I don't think the biology of the creature is that important. What was more odd to me about that explanation is that the tag line was like "something found us" or something like that which clearly implies this creature is of alien nature.

>>>also a very bad explanation. something from the bottom of the ocean could never get that big and be that mobile because there isnt enough there to eat, it could also never come to land because its body wouldnt be able to handle the pressure change

You probably LOVED Starship Troopers. :)

I took it for what it was a fun entertaining monster film, however that fun is diminished by the fact that I wanted to slap the main character and yell at him for being and idiot.
