Rofl Mao!

Paul Young - Every Time You Go Away
"Every time you go away, you take a piece of me with you."
Heard by my cousin:
"Every time you go 'Oy Vay', you take a piece of meat with you."

"And the papers want to know who shot you where..."

Pubert's actually worse/better than I am - he mishears EVERYTHING. I think he managed to mishear everything in "Bette Davis Eyes", from the very first line - "Her head is hollow and gold..."

This doesn't mean I don't have my own. Not a lot of great ones, but some decent ones. For decades, I thought the first line (other than the "sermon" at the start of Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" was "If you don't like him, why'd you let him in?" (It's "If you don't like the world you're living in".) It seemed to fit the next line of "Take a look around you - at least you got your friends." I also swear Gary Numan's singing "I close up my brain and an elephant dies" in "My Shadow in Vain". (It's "another friend dies.")

Many misheard lyrics aren't mine, but I adopt them as my own. A friend of mine thought Little River Band's "Reminiscing" went "We'll go dancing in the dark, walking through the park, and then we're missing." That's one I always sing. And the Smashing Pumpkins song is a lot more bearable if you start yelling along, "Spider marines! Siam steel-chested rabbit arcade!"

More as I remember them.

The Police – Message in a bottle
“A year has passed since I broke my nose

Took me years and years and years to find out they actually sing “….since I wrote my note”

The most famous one?

Blinded by the light
Wrapped up like a douche
In the middle of the night...

Reality?

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night...

Let me just ruin "Every Breath You Take" for you from here on out.

Oh, can't you see
You belong to me
How my poo hole aches
With every step I take

Stacy, You can never be a whore of any type. You are, by far, too classy !

What you have is extreme ear wax build-up !

RIIIGHT!

I (and most others) hear what makes sense to us. It's been proven in tests with young children. Never mind that what we thought we heard has little or no logic, it meets some pre-received concept of sense.

My favorite version is of the young child in Sunday School who showed his picture prepared after hearing 'Silent Night' to his teacher, It contained a circular brown dot. When asked about it, he replied, "That's Round John Virgin".

And don't forget "The cross-eyed bear" !!

Thank you for allowing me to be normal in the abnormal world.

I use misheard lyrics when I write poetry. That way, you can say that it was inspired by various singers/songs, but you really didn't steal anything.

Edit:
Yeah. My post wasn't really apropos or anything. Never mind.

A Canadian drug awareness TV spot of kids singing:

Drugs, drugs, drugs. Which are good? Which are bad?
Drugs, drugs, drugs. Astro Mom and Astro Dad.

The end second line actually is:
Ask your Mom and ask your Dad.

Took many months of repeated hearing before it dawned on me what they were actually meant to be singing.

Actually, it was VERY appropiate. And a great idea. (Now just watch as others steal it! lol)

I always thought it odd that the Beatles got away with singing "A love like yours, I get high, I get high, I GET HIIIIIGH!" in "I Want to Hold Your Hand". That is, until I realized it was "I can't hide".
